HumanMedia Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I have a Japanese PS3 and successfully signed up to the Aussie PSN. I signed up on launch night. But I imported Casino Royale, got it last week. Stuff waiting around weeks to see if I got it, only to find out it only works on region B. Supose I'll just sell it on ebay. And if the local copy does work, then sell the censored US Region A Casino Royale and keep the uncensored local one.
HumanMedia Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Aftre reading about all these confirmation emails I fished around in my my Spam filter - and found I got one too!
smcleod Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I got my email notification too. Funny thing is, if Sony say they sold 20,000 on the first weekend, and I got my PS3 one week after the launch, doesn't that mean I missed out
momaw Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 And if the local copy does work, then sell the censored US Region A Casino Royale and keep the uncensored local one. What was cut on the US copy that is in the Australian version?

momaw Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 What was cut on the US copy that is in the Australian version? So you are right Humanmedia The stairwell fight is SIGNIFICANTLY edited on the US version. There's no shot of Obanno's henchmen hitting the ground or Obanno crashing into the glass window. Also they cut some shots near the end where Obanno slams Bond into the wall a second time and Bond claps his hands together and starts hammering down on Obanno's back and they shortened the struggle at the bottom of the stairwell when Bond's strangling Obanno while he's going for the gun. However, the UK (and hence proabably our version) was cut as well: "For the British censors I had to take one cut out in the torture scene, where he puts the rope over his shoulders. They thought it was a little too sexual but the violence they didn’t cut. Now in America , no problem with the torture scene which I was amazed about and I had to reduce the violence and strangling and get to the death quicker. I found that very ironic and I think it proves that nobody really knows anything." Looks like both version suffer at the hands of the censors
ejm Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 A perfect example of the Sony marketing team doing their job... So does everyone who got one sign up to PSN and do they all have broadband? Anyway some people are saying that they signed up on the 23rd and did not get an email and some that signed up on April 1 did.
IanD1503559705 Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 So you are right HumanmediaHowever, the UK (and hence proabably our version) was cut as well: Looks like both version suffer at the hands of the censors The R4 DVD appears to be uncut and is effectively the same as the R3 DVD (except the R4 is missing the DTS soundtrack of the R3). Will be interesting to see how the Aus Casino Royale Blu-ray compares (academic for me as I don't have a Blu-ray player).

True, but given the small size of the AUD Blu-ray market and that we *are* the same region as the UK, does it not make more sense we would get our pressing from there? I doubt we have a single BD pressing lab here. It's easier to just run of 20,100 more copies when they do theirs and send them over (20,000 for the promotion and 100 to go to stores - doubt there would be more than that, JB's here seem to have gotten a single BD copy in stock) So does everyone who got one sign up to PSN and do they all have broadband?Anyway some people are saying that they signed up on the 23rd and did not get an email and some that signed up on April 1 did. I confirmed my PS3 on the network on the 19th and got the email. The conditions did not actually state you had to have an Australian bought PS3, just that you sign up on the 23rd or after with your first master account. I signed up before and got the email, other signed up with second master accounts and got the email. The only commonality seems to be an Australian mailing address. Who has signed up on the 23rd and not got an email?
Paranoid666au Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I got my Japanese PS3 about a week before the launch. I set up two users and with one user I signed on to the PSN with a fake US address (selected USA as my location). At that time you couldn't choose Europe or Australia. Then on the night of the launch (it might of been like 12:00 or 1:00 AM) I signed up to the PSN again with the other user (the one I mainly use), this time with my real Australian address (selected Australia as my location). It's kinda cool, you can download stuff of the US PS Store with one user and it can be accessed by the other users on the system. It's much the same way it works on the 360. There's even separate save files for each user. I even have the two different versions of GT HD on there. The US version you can zoom in on the menus where you can't on our version. Don't know what our version adds, maybe it's just PAL support for SD TV's?
anddy Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I registered mine at about 12.30 am on the 23rd too, and I still haven't received any email yet! Even checked my junk email and there is nothing. Surely I would have to have been one of the first 20,000 (especially seeing as people who registered a week later seem to be getting the confirmation email), yet I still don't.
AndrewW Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 got the email too Woohoo me too, I can see a flood of BDs on ebay in 45 days Andrew. edit: so much for "only if its the first master account registered" and "only if you register after midnight. I registered at 11:45pm (was sick of waiting), and it was my second master account (already had a US one setup). and for those who didn't know, mine is a Japanese import
Guest Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Woohoo me too, I can see a flood of BDs on ebay in 45 days Andrew. It better bleedin' work on my PS3!
Paranoid666au Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I thought Casino Royale seemed more violent in the cinema. If the Aussie version works on my PS3 and is less censored I might just keep it. Maybe sell the US copy.
momaw Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 It better bleedin' work on my PS3! according to the back of the box I saw at the local evil inc, it is region A,B,C. I'm gonna love it if this is a continuing trend. Release in the US - region locked, and then to the rest of the world later - region free.
AndrewW Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I thought Casino Royale seemed more violent in the cinema. There were rumours of the US version being censored, but I believe that this was disproved. Andrew.
momaw Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 There were rumours of the US version being censored, but I believe that this was disproved.Andrew. see my post here on what was actually censored. Perhaps we should sticky this so everyone knows what is happening with Casino Royale, the freebie, the censorship, etc :P
AndrewW Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 this article has a detailed summary of the cuts, guess I was wrong ... Now, the cuts that affect the UK edition are, in fact, only very slight. The torture sequence is now shorn of Le Chiffre’s taunting line about Bond’s rock-chiselled physique. Whereas the US and R3 versions show Mikkelsen drape the knotted rope over Bond’s shoulder and utter the words “Such a waste,” after commenting on how well he has looked after himself, the UK version omits this. Which, of course, begs the question why? What harm was there in this slice of verbal emasculation when the scene in question goes on to present it visually? But that’s it as far as the UK disc goes, which, when compared to US release, is not that bad at all.The US BD version suffers cuts to two of the gruelling fight sequences. The first is during the pre-credits assassination of the double agent Fisher in the Gents toilet. Missing from the print is the moment when Bond slams the cubicle door into Fisher’s face, just before the pair of them tumble out onto the floor. Next, and most noticeably, is the brutal kick that Bond delivers to the crouching Fisher’s side. All that remains of this shot is the second, much less violent kick to remove the bin from Fisher’s hands that he was about to swing at Bond. Further slight cuts to the scene utilise different shots to dilute the aggression of Bond’s subsequent drowning of his target. The cumulative effect of these snips lessens the impact and the savagery of the scene quite a bit, as far as I’m concerned. The next sequence to suffer is the stairwell fight with the machete-wielding Obanno and, sadly, I have to report that this pummelling skirmish is shortened even more. Gone is Bond smashing Obanno’s head through a window, a few seconds of close-quarter grappling during the chaotic descent down the stairs, Obanno reaching for Vesper’s leg, and the final strangulation has been trimmed, diluting the overall shock-value of the new Bond’s penchant for desperate violence. Censorship of movies is a severe bone of contention with me, folks, and Bond has, of course, been the subject of quite a few snips and cuts over the decades, with the likes of OHMSS, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies and License To Kill, among others, all victims at one stage or another. However, it comes as a complete shock that 007 still courts such controversy in this day and age. The bizarre thing is that with Casino Royale there isn’t even any consistency with the cuts that have been made – and obviously this affects the US version much more than the UK one. The fighting in the collapsing house in Venice is just as brutal and devastating as anything else that we have witnessed earlier – what with point-blank shots to the head, a nail-gun attack, a chair smashed in the face and a nasty electric shock – but remains completely untouched. I realise that a lot of people out there will possibly be thinking “So what … it’s only a few seconds here and there,” but Censorship is wrong and a slap in the face for intelligent, free-thinking individuals, and should not be tolerated. Andrew.

momaw Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Ditto. Did you "activate" your console itself under account management? (this is not automatic, you have to do this after you complete your registration).
sulimo Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Did you "activate" your console itself under account management? (this is not automatic, you have to do this after you complete your registration). Activate? No I didn't. I didn't realise I had to.
momaw Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 Activate? No I didn't. I didn't realise I had to. go into account management, edit your account, activate system and then choose to activate "this console". The terms of the promotion (which should have come with "how to" instructions) stated that you activate your PS3 on the Playstation network, not that you just register for the network. There are probably many with your problem and hence the complaints about not getting the email.

Interesting that the local store has let me buy stuff without activating my console. EDIT: Thats weird. I tried to activate it and it looks like it already is activated.
