Hi guys,

Been searching the fourms and cant find the info needed. I like to know what is the biggest HDD I can put into the box, Ive currently got a 120gig but thanks to big brother (dont ask) I need a bigger HDD.

I was thinking of:

Western Digital RE WD3200SB 320GB IDE Hard Drive, 7200RPM

or

Western Digital SE WD3200JB 320GB IDE Hard Drive, 7200RPM

Thanks Guys/gals

Edit: Ive currently got in there a Western Digital WD1200JB/PB Caviar 7200RPM ATA100 8M cache 120G

You have an X10A and you've upgraded the harddrive? Are you using the hacked firmware? If not, which firmware are you using?

Assuming a bigger hard drive will work with the X10A you should pick one which has the closest power requirements to the drive that came with the X10A. You can get these details from the manufacturers website.

Yep, currently using the hacked firmware, thats how I got a 120gig in there instead of the 80gig.

Hmm, I didn't think any X10A owners had got the hacked firmware to work. Good for you.

I think the largest drive I've heard of in a wintal/digicrystal was 250 gigs. Size doesn't matter, though, power does.

You should check the electrical specs for the two drives you're interested in (they are listed on the westerndigital.com website), you should then compare the power requirements to the original 80gig drive. Obviously a bigger drive will need more power than an 80gig drive but you still want to keep the difference as small as possible to give the wintal the best chance of being able to provide enough power. You should probably check maxtor and seagate drives as well as you may find a similarly sized maxtor or seagate uses less power.

If you search this forum section (I see you have, but there is definitely threads about this) you will find a thread or two about this where we have compared drive specs before. Some people who have upgraded successfully have also listed the drives they have used. If you use the same drive as them you are more likely to be successful.

The 250 WD ones Ive looked at require 530mA to run, and some ppl one here are saying that their PVR is running fine. I dont really want to spend $200 on a dud HDD. So I dont know if I should just get the JB or not.
