Internet Television

Internet TV there are about 2,000 TV Stations currently available.

About 1,100 are publicly listed on index portals like,

http://mediahopper.com/portal.htm

this portal is the most popular entry portal to internet television.

also the CAT Community Access Television index have a few

http://www.communitymedia.se/cat/index.htm

World TV index is one of the newer index services

http://www.netfor2.com/worldtv7.html

Australia has six TV Networks but while some provide video-on-demand (VOD), none actually stream live.

Three non commercial TV Networks ABC, SBS, CTV and

Three commercial TV Networks 7, 9 ,10

The CTV Community Television Network is not a real National Network, and does not appear inclined to become one.

A handy tip I have found when watching internet TV, depending upon the service, and your broadband speed, is that you can put the video out from the PC into a normal VCR then to you TV. The VCR especially the Sharp brand, have built-in enhancing circuits so the resulting picture on TV’s up to 80cm is just as good as normal old analogue terrestrial reception.

Some streaming stations only provide a low streaming rate, and small frame size, so unfortunately you end up with a tiny poor quality picture of maybe 320x240 pixels, but its still fun to watch.

Just having a quick browse through and unless you want a whole bunch of christian and other community stations at terrible quality its not much use.

Show me where I can stream a real TV station (CBS, NBC etc) or proper content then I'll start listening but for now its not a reality.

And I couldn't see anything that was even close in quality to regular terrestrial transmissions.

Plus many sites led to pages about the channels but few actually streamed content.

Yes. Wired's right.

Just about all of it is ethnic groups and christian tv. The only way any normal person would want to watch Internet television is if Other country's, or even our own commercial stations were listed. I'd love to watch HBO. It's ment to be awesome.

Thanks

I have found that Streamming TV stations of 300kbps come up ok on a 80cm TV, not perfect but good enough

SCCT Seattle Community Colleges TV from the USA are at 339kbps and they show up on the TV just as good as Australian Channels 7, 9, 10

The 500kbps stations are even better.

But I agree its not for all, Satellite TV is the way to go with about 800 Channels all SD Digital quality with just a 2.3 Metre dish.

Isn't HBO (Home Box Office) a premium pay general entertainment channel? Six Feet Under, Sopranos, Oz, etc are HBO shows...

800 channels? I have access to a motorised C-Band satellite and it gets nowhere near 800 TV channels, the quality (generally) is also nowhere near as good as our SD services, generally, satellite channels are compressed a lot more than our FTA ones.

Arhh..... well HBO has changed a lot since I was watching it as part of a 5 channel package many, many years ago with IndoVision out of Indonesia while living in Darwin

The international HBO is different from the U.S. HBO, as with Showtime, CNN, etc.

Show me where I can stream a real TV station (CBS, NBC etc) or proper content then I'll start listening but for now its not a reality.

Here's the streams for the terrestrial NZ networks:

'one': mms://L1.r2.co.nz/one-384

and

'2': mms://L1.r2.co.nz/2-384

EDIT: Don't worry about the below ones, they've kinda been turned off

I can't find 3, c4 or Prime though. I had access to a stream for NBC for a while but that's since been turned off though here's a stream for 'ABC News Now' (US):

mms://mudwmle008.bcst.mud.yahoo.com/bcenc203006

When I last checked, this was streaming KDFW-4 (The Dallas, TX affiliate for FOX):

mms://mudwmle008.bcst.mud.yahoo.com/bcenc203002

Internal ABC (US) Washington Bureau feed - there isn't always content on this stream:

mms://mudwmle008.bcst.mud.yahoo.com/bcenc203007 or

mms://mudwmle008.bcst.mud.yahoo.com/bcenc203008

I generally try not to distribute the links too much, cause when you do, they have a way of turning off... To view the streams, copy the MMS address into Windows Media Player, press ctrl+u to open url. As with satellite feeds, these streams tend to come and go, though the streams for the NZ channels seem permanent.

Internet tv is a great way to view christian television, programs such as Way of the master, discussion on the Davinci Code deception(see Erwin Lutzer's books).TBN,Daystar,God Channel,INI,ACC,Smile of a Child Children's Network, can all be seen view internet-but there isn't the facility to quickly change channels as on a tv set.Better to purchase a Optus B3 85 cm dish and have instaled on your roof or a huge 2.3m dish,to view multiple christian tv and radio channels.

Melbourne has no 100% christian radio station,Australia has no Christian TV station in any town or city on the terestrial network(why have they been prevented -I thought Australia was still a free state-freedom of dissemination of information).Foxtel has no Christian channel automatically received by its subscribers.I mean a non-Christian is not going to request a christian channel, but if it was on some would watch and be converted to the truth that Jesus is God.Australia has no Christian TV channel on mobile phones.

Even Europe has christian tv channels as automatic set channels on its cabel /satellite systems,so people could watch and come to Jesus through viewing.England and the US have a christian TV channel on their mobile phone services, why not Australia?

And why has Foxtel refused to have a christian tv channel on its channel list as an automatic channel that all receiving Foxtel could view?Yes they were asked and they said no.

Not that this is relevant to what you are saying, but I'm disappointed Foxtel refused to have Al Jazeera English. I would want to watch that channel.

I mean a non-Christian is not going to request a christian channel, but if it was on some would watch and be converted to the truth that Jesus is God.

Maybe they don't want their service to 'convert' people?

Note to tbn and myself - you have replied to a reeeeealy old thread.

Ummm, ever thought of going to church ? I am a christian, but i don't go looking for fellowship with my TV...

BTW, great that you signed up, dug up a 2 year old thread just to have a whinge that TV isn't based around christianity..... NOT. *SLAP*

If you want to watch Christian TV just tune into channel 31 (well here in Bris anyway) and you'll get as much evangelical pentecostal crap as you want. Like that fat sneering guy who looks like a cane toad, speaks with some strange Australian/ South African accent - forgotten his name, prowling up and down amongst his deluded simpering flock.

Actually I love 'trolling' fundo's, especially the ones that come round the streets. For example I usually tell the Jehovah's Witnesses that my uncle is one of the 144 thousand true anointed (I don't have an uncle  ). That usually gets rid of them :lol:

Spam for the biggest tax-evading multi-nationals on the planet. Should it be reported? Run away, run away.:P
