darcy Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Hi there, i have a pair of Tannoy speakers that i have aquired, they are in large speaker boxs(came from the BBC studios and dont seem to match Arden/Berkeley/....) with 1 HPD/385/8. i am just looking for a rough price to sell these for. my reciever died the other day and have to sell things to buy another thanks Adam
ehtcom Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Hi Darcey. A good pair of HPD385's in good cabinets with tannoy crossovers could fetch betweem $1500.00 and $2000.00 Cheers, Earle.
darcy Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Earle, thanks, i bought them 3 years ago in pretty good condition for $100. but my amp stopped working today so trying to figure if i should sell the speakers to get a new amp, or just save up for a new amp Adam
coppinger Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Earle, thanks, i bought them 3 years ago in pretty good condition for $100. but my amp stopped working today so trying to figure if i should sell the speakers to get a new amp, or just save up for a new amp Adam Earles estimate of the price sounds pretty close to me... good HPD's are not that easy to find...amps are. keep em!
Los Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I agree you should easily get 1500 -2000 with or without the cabs, I got 1500 for the last pair I sold 5 yrs ago. If the foam surrounds have never been replaced they will most likely be perished. Put them on ebay worldwide for 99c and watch em go... Pretty sure someone on the forum would probably be interested them for 1500 if they are in good condition. They are popular with DIYers. Cheers Los
gamve Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Earles estimate of the price sounds pretty close to me...good HPD's are not that easy to find...amps are. keep em! Sell them to me, Opps sorry bout that...LOL I agree keep the tannoys. Amps are a dime a dozen for good sounding ones. Speakers on the other hand....you will need to pay a small fortune to match the tannoys if they are properly setup.
Guest atilsley Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Adam I have a pair of HPD "Royal's"...which were a special edition sold by Tannoy into the Canadian market. Forum nuts suggest the specs are pretty much identical to the standard HPD's. I paid AUD$1800 and sourced them from....Canada. Original cross-overs and the units sound great. I have them in a pair of my new GRF Rectangualr horn cabinets. One driver has a 20cm tear on the front cone, which was repaired before I bought them. I don't think there's any difference to the sound. This article suggests the drivers in the GRF-R cabinet will give -3dB at 25Hz....! I can certainly attest to a very good bass response using the HPD driver in the right box. Kind regards Andrew.
