Has LG released a new HD STB model? Has anyone seen it? Is it technically the same as the 4100? There is one advertised in the latest Good Guys catalog, on sale for $499....

I have 'heard' (emphasis on heard) that it is technicially the same as their previous version.

Dont quote me however - I am sure other members here may know more....

I thought it was posted that this one was not made by humax anymore just one of the clone jobbies like the pioneer. probably a whole new kettle of fish.

Could be - I only vaguely recall some idle banter about it *shrug*

I have one - I bought it last weekend. It is the 5100 (replacement for the 4100) I have no idea how it differs except for the guy telling me that the software is improved and bugs have been ironed out. So far it is great. Interested to try a DVI/HDMI connection to compare. (running a Pioneer 43")

I can't find specs on the 5100 anywhere and didn't know it was readily available. Does it have a HDMI interface?

It seems that the old 4100 model had no macrovision protection l(ike most good dvd players) but the new model 5100 has macrovision protection.

So does that make it better or worse from a user's perspective?

ie. will there be future content that won't play through a non-Macrovision STB?

I have been told though it only comes in black rather than the fake brushed aluminium silver finish. Does this mean all our silver gear is going out of fashion again???

It has DVI not HDMI.....so far it has been great. I would have liked Picture in Picture....but no luck.

Have you ever tried to copy a dvd from a dvd player with macrovision protection to a vcr tape?

Well that's the same with a stb with macovision protection. Seems pressure has been put on the company.

I called LG earlier this week and asked them to fax me the spec sheet on the new LST5100. They sent me the fax and the following is exactly what is written on the spec sheet:

- Multiple Output Resolution (576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i)

- 19:9 Widescreen

- Support for Seven Day EPG

- Closed Captions

- Slim Design

- Advanced Graphic User Interface

- A Variety of Digital Video Output Connections (DVI, Component, RGB, S-Video)

- Optical & Coaxial Digital Audio Output

- Software Upgrade via RS232

- Parental Control System

I have been given a price of $475 from Betta Electrical in Richmond VIC, so I may get one soon. I'll post some more info when I have had a chance to try it out.

Cheers,

Digi.

I am not so sure about that. There is one difference at least. The DVI connector on the back is vertical compared to horizontal on the 4100. This may indicate some circuit board difference. We need a member with one and knowledge of both to shed further light.

I am not sure circuit board layout will make a difference when still using all the same internal components like processors and so on

I've picked LG 5100p STP yesterday!!!

Got it for $400 at Megamart AUBURN after usual 10% off + extra 10% off!!

First Impression??

Nice exterior casing!! with titanium silver looks with shiny reflective display!!

I've connected it to my old sony TV via composite cable... and the picture was brilliant!! I'm still waiting for my Pioneer plasma, but I think it will work nicely... esp with similar colour concept to Pioneer DVD/heatre package

Haha.. can't wait!!

I bought one today. It's gun metal grey. Pretty cool looking. It has DVI and it's vertically orientated. PQ is great , menus and ease of use fantastic. The remote is spongy, so you have to hold it down a little longer for it to register. This is a minor thing though.

I can't find any place which will tell me the firmware verion??

Other than that, seems like no difference to previous model. I don't have the previous version. Just looking at the specs shown on the web.

Just picked up one today as I was looking for a replacement for my new TEAC which is just driving me crazy with the noisy sound clicks.

I was not happy with the Thomson or the Digitec which are both now parked in the garage.

The LG looks could and I went to the extra expense of gold tipped and shielded cables from Etheral.

A HDMI cable and a DVi M adapter.

Put it together and works fine although a bit slow to pick up the audio when using my surround amp.

It looks like it could be pulling a bit more detail on my 42" Hitachi than the other boxes, the only thing you can't do is move the channels around and it was nice to get a control that can be used on the Plasma as well.

Idid notice it mentioned that a Humax cable is supplied with the box .For what it is worth does this mean the box is a Humax ?

One question though, when is somebody going to bring out a twin HDMI cable to single connection for the new Hi definition DVD player when it arrives?

I bought a new LST-5100P model yesterday from Quantum Sphere (excellent price and service would recommend) and appears to work ok. I have it connected to my 127cm NEC plasma via DVI cable. I have noticed that there is pixelization when changing channels but settles down after a few seconds. The Freeze button dosen't work on the remote. Also in the back of the manual there are remote control codes for tvs but no code for NEC.
