New Forum Software

Featured Replies

Without much fanfare, the new forum software is here. As with the last upgrade, please post any problems or immediate concerns you may have in this thread.

Underway:

- No pending issues

Completed:

- "Member Group" removed from LHS

- "Member ID" removed from LHS

- Text size now changeable for (esp. for George)

- DBA Banner not sprawling

- Board Guidelines were not showing

Known Issues:

- Page rendering is slightly slower & different in the new version. Typically, the bulk of the text is loaded first, and the pictures are streamed second. Current timings indicates that Mozilla renders best in about 0.85 seconds, followed by IE in 1.92 seconds. Your mileage may vary with these figures based on how fast your link can handle the data.

- All members will be required to re-login again to take advantage of the new session handling

- Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (or similar)<br>

Currently talking to developers. Have instigated a workaround, simply reload the page if this error is generated

Nod, it was removed in line with what we had previously...

Can not see any link to "log out" (Netscape browser)

Text size isn't changeable for George

I'm speechless...

Is now

Hi Coral, well done on the reasonably smooth transistion.

I see the forum banner is fixed now too.

I missed having the forums overnight and this morning :-)

Regards

Thanks Anthony, that should be fixed now. Downloading FF now to test.

Tony - Yeah the banner took a bit to fix up. They changed some of the backend processes, so my previous hack didn't work this time around.

OK, banner now looks fine under FF here. Thanks again.

Couple of new features I guess:

- When you receive a PM, a summary of it is displayed at the top of the page the moment you refresh the page (either by new topic, or existing).

- More features in your "My Controls"

- Ability to mark yourself invisible upon login

- Ability to change default language (currently only English)

- Subforum links are listed on the main page for convenience

- Report link moved to LHS - hopefully I'll get less replies that people did as reports :P

- A "Lo-Fi" version link at the bottom of each page. Good for slow links and PDAs. Graphics are auto-stripped

A lot of admin/moderator changes too which you guys won't see, but makes my job easier

this line at the top of each page no longer has lines under them to indicate they are links

  • Author

Ponder, is that since yesterday or within the past hour?

(I have also enabled attachments in this subforum for anyone who needs to upload screenies...)

Coral

But they do highlight blue to indicate that they are links and the hand appears when the cursor is over them.

Bit odd, my signature lines didn't appear until I went into the setting in 'my controls' and resubmitted. It was all there, but just didn't seem to appear in the posts (option was ticked to include sig in the posting).

Hmm, just seems to not be showing up in the My Assistant's my last 10 posts search.

I don't believe the assistant ever showed sigs, to fit more of the search on the page... but don't quote me ;-)

I have been trying to update my picture since this morning and when I goto set it the browser just comes up with a blank screen as shown in the attacthment. This occurs in both FF and IE6.

Andrew - make sure you are updating your avatar via this link http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?act=UserCP&CODE=24, or via "Edit Avatar Settings" in your My Controls.

I just removed my avatar and added a new one, and the process worked okay. Did the same with my 'normal user account'. If others could test it as well, I'd appreciate it.

Rules of thumb is that your avatar must be able to be scaled to 64x64. It must also be 20KBytes or less in size. If its an odd shape or otherwise not-square, it'll fall over - but not usually with a blank screen...

If all else fails, post your desired avatar here, and I'll manually update it for you.

Changes caught me by surprise :P but after a short time "clicking around" I am most pleasantly surprised at the improvements.

regards(not regrads  )

Hehe nod, most will do a double-take and fiddle around finding the right stuff. Things are in more realistic places now though. Most "action" material is on the right, and most "informative' material is on the left.

I'm having trouble reading the topics in the What are they saying about DTV now? folder - appears to be a glitch!

ie. I'm unable to read the articles in this section,,, Has anyone had similar trouble????????

  • Author

Wow, looking into it.

Edit: Looks to be a problem. I've hidden it from view for the moment until the developers send word on a solution. The physical data is present in the database; the index for that subforum looks normal, but only they can tell!

Is it just me, or did the textsize/font just change?!?!

Otherwise, forum software change seems good, thanks Coral!
