robertr Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Hello Bosustow, Channel numbers 7, 9, 2 , 10 & 3 (576i)all come up on the Toshiba automatically as Pal, this is when you get a lot of flicker & it is very annoying. To overcome the flicker I change the format to 1080i(from the remote) & there is no flicker evident. With 576P (70 & 30) & 1080i 12 & 90 & 20 there is no flicker apparent can anyone shed any light as to the flicker on 576i? RobertR
DragonFly1503559550 Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 robertr I have the same setup and am very impressed with the Toshiba, except the display seems next to usless. I have many clocks what I want is to know what channel my STB is on so I can record without turning on the TV to check. Hope they give this another think in the next S/W version. The 576i problem is because the HD input on the Sony does not support 576i, probably because it's not HD. Check it, it's in the manual. Maybe as someone suggested earlier a wat to set the output the Tosh may be good idea or at least be able to turn the auto off so us suffering Sony Hd users don't have to press the extra button. I'm glad I waited, the Toshiba rules! Now I suppose the will release one with HDD/PVR since I've spent the money.

Yep thats the only thing I also can pick on the Toshi. I,m only running a s-video to my old Sony 80cm and the HD Loop looks fantastic. Which really does surprise me. Angelo
bucca Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 want a good price for a set top box or tv, search the web (in your country)for your desired model to find the cheapest price around and either purchase of them or get a retail store near you to price match. Just got a Panasonic 86cm 100hz Widescreen TV for $4250 (was marked at $4699 at the store and $4999 in others) and have prices for the Panasonic HD Set top box (QRT2140) for $755 and the Toshiba (HD-S23A) for $770. (all prices $AU and including GST) shop around and bargain with them to get a good price!
numbat Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 Give us a hint bucca. Where did you get that price for the Toshiba..............ppoint us in the right direction, please. Regards Brad
LukeF1503559517 Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 Go to haggling school? I think there are relevant courses at TAFE.
bucca Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 I found them at: www.yardleyhospitality.com.au They deal from West Lakes SA and DO sell outside the hospitality industry to the public. (I have clarified that over e-mail)
numbat Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 I was actually looking for something a bit more constructive than that thanks LukeF ...... such as a web address or a state. We here in the west are a bit limited for distributors at this point. But gee I really value your helpful comment................not regards Brad
robertr Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 Dear All, Be careful with these web deals on most ocassions they do not have the goods in stock I would be most interested to hear if they actually can sell at this price its one thing to advertise another to actually deliver, Robert
bucca Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 that is why if you are not comfortable with dealing direct to smaller places you can simply get the larger retail ones to price match.
LukeF1503559517 Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 I was simply trying to emphaise that good haggling skills can get you very good prices at such places as Good Guys, Bing Lee etc. Sarcasim is in my blood
Groover ! Posted September 18, 2003 Author Posted September 18, 2003 Well it had to happen. The Toshi showed its first real bug today. When you turn the unit of the signal through the RF loop becomes grainy. Turn the unit on and its perfect again. So if you want to see a perfect picture from your vcr etc the Toshi has to be left on. Okay so I,ll be on my second Toshi in 3 weeks. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!! I did do a comparison between the Toshi and the Dgtec 2000a via compsite, s-video and component conections to my new Sony and the Toshi did win in all cases. The picture was a lot sharper and the colors looked more natural on the Toshi. Angelo
scorpio1503559530 Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 Hi Angelo! It may sound silly, but I had a similar problem with Video/DVD combination (Samsung). When the video/DVD was on, all TV channels were fine. As soon as i turned it off, the picture become grainy. I rang zillions of numbers and nobody couln't help me. Fortunatley, somehow I've talked to the TV repair tech, and he advise me to try putting FM trap after the wallplate. It solved the problem. I'm not saying that you have the same case, but .... Cheers scorpio
barri Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 Angelo I tried to emulate your problem by experimenting with my Tosh/VCR/TV combination and I got the same (reasonable quality) analogue picture regardless of whether the Tosh was on or off. I do, however, have an old TV and VCR. Your brand new Sony might show up all flaws in reception. You may also have some interference John
Ripsnorter Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 Angelo, Have you realised that "you" are a jinx. Every purchase you make seems to breakdown. Do me a favour, please, please, don't buy a Panasonic 106cm Plasma.

Digicruiser Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 Ah well Groover, you sure that is a bug with the Toshi, even though it should pass through regardless? I did look at the Toshi at Challenge Hifi, geez they don't pressure sale you at all, in fact they don't serve you at all for a while! Mad you found a bug, I almost believed you... Still it's only one so far.
barri Posted September 18, 2003 Posted September 18, 2003 Angelo, I wouldn't call this a bug, particularly if you don't tape many shows. Hang on in there, the Tosh is still the best.
