My System Today

Featured Replies

Hi joamonte,

Actually my seating position is at ear level with my floorstanders & center speaker...only the plasma may be a slightly higher than i expected cause i need to factor in the height of the "fireplace" & center speaker.

So i would say sound wise is okay except for viewing level which i can't do anything now unless i tilt the plasma downward at an angle...this way need to change the plasma bracket which i do not know if it is available or not.. ???

Anyway,thanx for your feedback

its neat and tidy(mnn..except the cable behind the hifi rack...)

:)

but just wonder,do you think the sound and picture wasnt come combine well, as its not at the same height....?

if you felt so may be you can consider buying those wall mount spk and plac3e it beside the Plasma,or the other alternative is to buy Yamaha AV reciever that with additional two front-top spk to pull up the soundfield..

  • Nice to be home after 3 weeks of overseas travel. Really missed our cat and my system. The world is back in balance, and the cat is happy. 😎

see...I am also expecting my 1st baby at next year april, hope it will not affect my HT/Audio hobby too much... ;D

regarding the sub placement,a friend reccently point out to me that in the "the complete to high-end audio" written by Robert Harley share the same view with me,the reason he stated is exacty the same as mine...if you have a chair/sofa that is facing the screen, maybe you can give me some comment after you tried it,to see weather my founding suit everyone...

one more thing, can Lumagen output 1388X768? if I am not wrong its the native resolution of VW11HT, 1 is to 1 pixal maping is the best way to max to performance of Scaler + digital PJ according to my experience....becase not matter how good is you video processor, its is quite pointless if you need to pass thru the scaler in the PJ again..

:)

Wah, congrates!!! 1st thing, forget about toilet traning, not important. Train them "no touch screen, no touch speakers, no touch etc etc etc...." So far, successful with my 1st two. The third is just three months old. Guess we will see. hehe...

As for the sub, tried everything. My friend in HK who is a dealer argued with me amoung other things, sub placement. Took us three days to try all our theories and at the end, he was convienced with my arguement. But he had one up at last. The placement may be at akward places. Mine was lucky as that corner was 10 inch r based concrete. At his showroom, it was not that lucky. I guess the placement will have to be compromised due to non dedicated rooms, which most os us will have. My experience with placement direct behind sofa if not the calibrated position give you the vibs through resonance but not the depth.

As for the scaling, yes, I agree that the NR scaling is the best. But those days, the only reasonable NR scaler I have seen is the Faroudja NR. Price was the deterance. Also, faroudja was not that good for 2-2 pull down. But today, choices are much more and much cheaper but still not cheap. So at that time, as long as better than 480p go lor and hence, the 720p.

Seelah, slowly work on upgrade and improvementloh. Now working with my brother for our SG HT and see what we can achieve.

Yes, the masking. Was tempted with the stewart four way all along. That is what the crestron is for in case this upgrade.

hi,

regarding the sound height I think you get me wrong....

what I mean is let said for eg...when the sound effect is a car from your left front to right front,at you setting/placement did you feel the sound is FROM the screen left to right ,or its BELOW your screen left to right.

a ideal HT system should let you feel that the sound is from the screen instead of below or ontop of the screen, that why in cinema their spk is hide inside/behind the screen rather then below or on top of the screen..

there are chance that sometime you do feel that the sound is from the screen if you are lucky...but some of my friend smailiar to you after awhile decide to rise their spk up,put beside their TV so to get a better feel of integration their picture and sound..

:)

Hi joamonte,

Alrite...now i understand what you are saying...yes,i do sense that the sound from the center speaker is not coming directly from the screen but i find it acceptable at this point in time..

Anyway, thanx for bringing this to my attention as i have overlooked this all this while...

I think I saw a Lexicon!!

It really a very nice HT system, very few HT fan in Singpore can do this in their house (a delicate room for HT only)...I like those chair that create the real "cinima mood",it evenhave a platform to rise the secondrow!! :o ..

but I remember the sound still need some fine tuning last time when we went there,a little bit too bright for HT system..

Yeo,also maybe you can try shift you front sub to the right side of you seating chair,my latest discover is the place the sub near you seat sound best, but you must use the phase control of your sub to match its sound with you front 3 spk..

Also...have you 8501 complete calibrate? last time we saw quite some rainbow, hope that after calibration the rainbow will reduce..

if only I have a spare room... :-\

I have long changed the sub Xover from 40Hz (when you are here ) to 80hz for better matching to the front spk. I have also toned down the sub quite a fair bit which I find it too overwhelming on many scene. Now it is so much better compared to that day when your guys visited.

BTW, not really possible to relocate the front sub, the cable trucking are already full. No more space for routing new extra cable through that direction.

I still trying to find time to re-calibrate the whole projector setup for 720p and 1080i signal. Hope to get it done soon.

You have eagle eyes!

don't mind i ask....how big is your room?, is this a private estate apartment or HDB?..

Where you get those cinema chairs??..

Hi Anchor. Can tell me where you bought the curtains behind those sexy chairs? ;D are they blackout cloths? How much. thanks.

Beautiful........

You will be surprised to know it's hdb. It's amazing how Anchor can fit all the ht equipment into the room and it's so cosy and I don't feel cramped.

I really luv those chairs. Like joamonte mentioned, so much like in cinema and comfy too.

Lovely setup! :) I also want to ask where you bought your chairs from? Can reveal how much they cost? I may be thinking of getting chairs like yours.

Cheers.

This can be one for reference of HT in HDB using CRT, it can be done! The cinema chair is a nice touch, though it is a bit cramped at the back row for tall ppl ;).

Joamonte, you saw rainbows on CRT?

My humble HT room.

Hmm ... Besides the Lexicon processor I see a Crown Power amp down there :o

Awesome! I want my HT Room to be just like yours in future...!!! Hehehe... :P

Joamonte, you saw rainbows on CRT?

yes...Jason Yeo see it too,is it a common thing?

I dont remember I saw rainbow on 3 gun before that, but few week ago I saw a Vison 1 (not fully calibrate)at Custom AV,there is rainbow too..

maybe the pj not properly converged?

That's my guess too, but yeo's should be nicely setup

I believe it could be the source. Take Hero for example, on the B&W scence, there always this blue tint appear briefy on the spear, and always at the same instant upon replay. Convergence also play a part.

Those chairs are purchased from a corporate's re-renovation deal.

However I'm thinking of clearing one row of seats. This is to create more leg space for second row viewing which is also the optimal viewing position in my setup.

The curtain were made couple of years ago, I have lost track on the cost of it. My estimate for 3m by 2.5m long curtain with blackout should be around $500.
