  2. Urm, I'm a TOTAL NEWB, trying to put together a cheap system (for my bedroom). All in, hopefully under 2-3 K. I understand that one way, would be to start off with a set of speakers, and build around it. This would prob be best for me, reason being that I intend to fix the spks to the walls, so, will prob put the major part of the $$ into them. Perhaps can upgrade the other components later on. Question: Any kind of universal wall bracket? So that IF i do change speakers, won't have to change brackets, resulting in unsightly holes. I'm budgeting between 500-1500 (too wide a range.. maybe) for a pair of speakers. If on the cheap side, I might even buy 2 pairs. Reason being that my bedroom is a little odd shape, and don't have a really fixed listening position (bed, sofa, desk are all in the corners). I listen to a wide range of music, from pop, club mixes (dance), jazz (love it), lounge, ballads, and perhaps some instrumental pieces once a while. Hence, I'ld prefer something for a good range of music, and Not too 'laid back' (that the correct word?). As for bass extension, would be lovely, but not THAT crucial, as can always invest in a woofer later on. One of my major considerations, right at the beginning WAS actually the looks. Something (in fact anything) that wasn't the typical stained wood boxy type of speakers. Was actually considering minipods, and u-vola, and the likes. But apparently, nothing nice and look good in the price range huh? Question: Whatabout those nice surround sound systems?.. Usually for HT systems? small cute speakers, like the Gallo Micro ?? Do they sacrifice alot on the sound quality? Imaging (this the correct term??) would prob also be an issue, as mentioned above, I would prefer the sound to envelope whole room, instead of a very nice sweet spot (even IF there's a slight compromise on quality). I know, that I really should go to adelphi and the likes to audition, But i was hoping to get pointed in the right direction so that I can ASK about the right speakers (dun want to go in and say "eh, what do you have for under a 1000 bucks?" ) I'll follow up with a lonnng list of speakers, if anyone can just pop in a ROUGH estimate of the cost price (new) of ANY of them, it'll be much appreciated. Of cos, if anyone can suggest some speakers I should focus on, that'll be VERY VERY much appreicated... thanx ah!..
  3. just wondering.. what range of paradigms does kec carry?.. just the cinema series?
  4. hey budz... let me know if u do find a shop selling these??? very interested in having a look at those, but apparently the shop at adelphi selling those have went kaput...
  5. oooh they have it @ the librarys?? heh.. sweeeet i'ven't been to one in.... man..ages ;D
  6. ritos.. .thanx folks!... will go look at them.... prob won't subcribe just yet.....
  7. i had this kenny G (no flame please =p) cd early on.. can't remember the album (in office now) .. had this limited edition song "jasmine" inside, which was my fav. However, after a while... less than a couple of years? dunnoe y but small little holes started appearing in the gold part, so that you can actually see through the gold. prob around say 1 mm in diameter, but it was right in the section where that track jasmine was recorded (near the outer edge).. so.. damnz the edges also started to warp.... the plastic was ok.. just the inside never seen this with other cds b4..
  8. Any good audio magazines to recommend to a newb? preferrably abit of everything, with a focus on hardware reviews, and with bits of basic info once a while? Another thing?.. how can i get my hands on some of the older issues of What HIFI? trying to get a couple of issues from the past couple of years.. for their reviews.. namely the - April 2001 - May 2002 - January 2003 issues they don't allow access to back issues online =p
  9. eh.. how to attach pic huh?.. or insert??
  10. hehe... ok i'll take a trip down to adelphi this couple of weeks.. hmmm... i guess floorstanders are out of the question for me.... due to the layout of my room.. too many doors etc, .... hmm.. i'll post another reply later.. with a rough layout of my room.. see if u guys got any input =p
  11. heh.. i was looking through all the old treads, and came across some discussion about the eclipse.. had a look at it online.... WOW.. nice eh!.. was thinking of getting a pair (or even 4) of the minipod speakers to go with it.. then i read this =p eh.. would u have any idea.. how much the eclipse 25 and 36 going for? and.. hmm... are they that bad? btw, a couple of the reviews recommended sticking with the ls110 speakers in the package.. which is better then the pods? I guess.. i'm willing to spend up to 2 k+ (go out less =p) I'm just a little apprehensive abt geting seperates, cos i really won't know how to blend them into get a nice balance.., and they are normally (a secondary factor, but a concern to me nonetheless).. alittle bulkier than those all in one systems.. in anycase.... would u have any recommendation for a nice setup for the budget?.. which rotel cd player would u suggest?.. and how would the amp pair up with the minipod speakers?.. watabt.. 2 pairs ? I've read a few reviews about them.. what price range am i looking at for these in s'pore? somehow.... their look don't really do it for me.. but being so compact.. i prob won't have to display them as prominantly.. arghs.. the more i'm writing. .and looking.. i feel that i'm looking for something to complement my room.... This is bad huh??? (shoot myself) i do enjoy music i guess... but more of the... lets say.. jazzy chill-outs genre... like the cafe del mar series etc? maybe a bit of.... arghs.. disco music? =p the real disco.... maybe pre-mambo era (gd old days huh?) .. heh even abit of... eurotrance bah... i'm rambling on in here... but seriously.. thanx for your input!
  12. congrats on your new place eh! heh.. pal... let me know when u do find one?... kinda looking around for one too..
  13. Wow.. they look good =D thanx.. watabout the cost side? arghs. .then i'ld have to mix and match right?? and watabout those horn speakers on the market.... they gd?
  14. hey folks!.. thanx for reading this!.. newb on the block =p Ok.. thing is.. I'm sorta moving into a new place end of the year, and apart from getting HT system for the family room, am thinking of getting a sound system for my room I'm trying to decide what kinda direction to go into now.. as I might want to lay the speaker wires into the walls .. Long story short, I'm a sucker for looks... as its my bedroom after all !! and I don't have that much space to play with... I know that prob won't do down too well with some of you.. but pls spare me the flames ?? Budgetwise, I was looking for something below $1000-$1500, and have looked at both the yamaha and denon mini-compos... with those, I prob won't have to lay the wires .. just keep the 2 speakers close? I do understand that they deliver quite a punch for their size and costs, but somehow.. i'm a little disappointed with their looks.. So, i'm stretching my budget by quite abit (save harder loh), and want to look at the nakamichi systems.. namely the 8 or 8.5 series... prob cost double what i was hoping for... but heck.. they look pretty good any comments on those systeMs? Are all the nakamichi speakers passive? (that the word to use??) I was looking at some of the b&o systems (yeah.. i know they aren't what you would call a gd buy), and the speakers have built-in amps, so have to use the coaxial cables with phono connectors.. Or any other systems can you kind folks can recommend me? I know tat i prob can get better stuffs at much less, but I really don't want to mix n match, given what little i know about sound systems.. and I'm gonna have the HT in my family room for the 'serious' listening anyway.... soo help anyone? =D
