RSD on the Gold Coast a bit of a sad affair today -

only one store here participates and he hardly got anything anyone requested 😢

Very light on for RSD overall.

I had four on my wish list  - and he got none of them ........

He said he even ordered 20 copies of Bowie and got Zero !!

So I had no need to get up early to line up this morning but I did go later in the morning to participate - I found a nice 80s Duran Duran maxicut.

He did not even have Taylor Swift's new album, so I picked that up at JB HiFi  this morning too - (so no Tay Tay RSD note as JB not allowed to participate) -

JB  had 20% sale off all their Vinyl for RSD but NOT for Taylor's album......the only one excluded.

The girl that served me said even the staff complained about that "meanness" 🤣

I noticed the  RSD Brisbane store lists were similar - hardly anything for today  😱

So a lot of disappointed people today I think, this end of this Great Southern Land 🤔

Was that at Beatnix in Broadbeach?

I go for a family holiday in December every year at Broadbeach and always pop in there to have a browse.  Owner is a chill dude who likes a chat about music. Have picked up a couple of nice second hand records there over the years and a few new ones, but didn't bother going to any store for RSD this year.

  2. Finally finished Dark season 3 on Netflix.....not sure what to say. Really enjoyed season 1...after that, it was fine, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped from the reviews.

Also watched S4 of True Detective.

S1 was a TV masterpiece IMO. I can see why the other series do not rate as highly, but each one is essentially a stand alone show, which different styles. I think the following seasons suffer from S1 being so damn good and viewers expecting the same style as S1.  I enjoyed S4, and thought the acting was really solid throughout. A few elements of the story line didn't quite hit the mark for me, but overall, I was happy with it. Nice to see Jodie Foster as the lead in a TV series and loved her in this.

My go to in Brisbane in the 80’s & early 90’s was Kent Records - run by none other than Clarke Kent (I’m not kidding). I did prefer it to Rocking Horse (though didn’t mind Rocking Horse either but they had a smaller store back in the day).

Kent Records was in a basement down a set of stairs - now some sort of a sex shop. To Rocking Horse’s credit - they’re still going…. Not sure what ever became of Clarke.

I think I recall this one.

I remember there used to be a Metal Record store up near Elizabeth or Charlotte st, at the Edward st end.

I used to frequent Sunflower Records at Garden City , weekly through the late 80's and first half of the 90's

Agreed - Skinny’s was awesome too, often a debate amongst mates as to which completely subjective aspect made one or the other (or rocking horse) the best.

At least we all agreed it was not HMV!

The guys that ran Skinny's now have Sonic Sherpa at Stones Corner. I believe it is one of the owners of Skinny's

I hear you Keyser.   I gave up on FTA TV about 15 years ago.   Prior to Kodi all my watching came from EZYTV or The Pirate Bay.  Downloaded on USB and into a device cabled to the TV.

Keyser check this out and do some more research.

    Happy Viewing.

    Regards Cazzesman

    Thanks for sharing.

I assume you can do this in the settings for a Apple TV or Telstra TV etc as well?

It's interesting, that I can see the actors in Oppy did a great job and that the scenes were pretty much very well done. Yet as a movie, I'm glad I got it on disk from the library - as I couldn't sit through it in one sitting. I was just bored by the thing. I might grab a DVD of it and try cutting it in chronological order and see if it works better for me...

Yeah, for movies, I can see where a movie is very well made/written/acted but not appeal to people.

For me, I found Oppenheimer to be riveting and I absolutely loved it..but I know others that couldn't connect with it and that's fine

Well I'm an avid movie goer too, and the 2023 was dismal for good releases, (Guy Ritchie's)"The Covenant" and (Riddly Scott's)"Napoleon" had me riveted from go to whoa.  More than the 3 expected winners could "Oppenheimer" "Killers of the Flower Moon" and "Babe" which two were still good movies "for 2023" but they were nothing extraordinary.

(As much as I'm in love with Margo Robie, I lasted not even 1/2hr with Babe)

    Cheers George

    **Barbie

I have just seen Barbie and whilst I understand it won't be everyone's cup of tea, I thought it was very well done for what it was.

I also really enjoyed The Covenant, but not close to the same quality of film making as  Oppenheimer or KOTFM

    Folks,

I love movies, but every time I open up my TV, I search in Netflix, find nothing interests me, so I end up watch YouTube every time.

I don't have a reason to open up HT system

Been 6 month, I have not been using my HT even once.

any thing wrong with my Netflix? I found the movies either old, viewed or not interesting

Depends on your taste, but my wife and I just watched Society of the Snow on Netflix and found it to be excellent.

It is the real life story of a Uruguayan Rugby team's plane crashing in the Andes . It's the same story as the US Movie "Alive" from 1993, but I found this to be better. I recall liking Alive, but the fact that this was done in the native language made the story more real.

< Criminal Record review – Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo are great alone. Together, they’re mesmerising

We need an award for best joint performance and we need it now, for these two and their sublime turns in a clever, timely corrupt cop thriller

Apple TV+’s new drama opens at night with Peter Capaldi apparently working as a taxi driver, with two obnoxious characters in the back. The waves of fury and hatred roll off him. I want to note up top that Capaldi marauding the mean streets of London or Glasgow à la Taxi Driver is a show I would watch. Imagine Capaldi as a man forced into nightly proximity with humanity. Wouldn’t you give just about anything to see that?

Fortunately, this show gives him an almost equally sublime role to play. Criminal Record essentially functions as a showcase for Capaldi as DCI Daniel Hegarty, an old-school detective (of the un-bonhomous type), and Cush Jumbo as DS June Lenker, whose race and sex are enough for him to mark her down as part of the new guard.

Their paths intersect when a domestic violence victim makes an anonymous call suggesting that her partner might have previously killed someone called Amelia Burrows. Lenker finds out that Hegarty was the investigating officer on the Burrows case and the victim’s boyfriend, Errol Mathis, was charged with her murder. Mathis is serving a 24-year prison sentence – possibly wrongly.

Alone, Jumbo or Capaldi can hold anyone’s attention. Together, squaring off as adversaries, they are mesmerising. If ever there is going to be an award invented for best joint performance, make it this year, for them. Capaldi is terrifying as the cold predator sniffing round his prey, searching for weakness, prepared to wait for a quick, clean kill. Jumbo is fantastic as an opponent far from unaffected by all he brings to their contest – experience, connections, an indeterminable amount of malevolence – but resolving to go ever harder at him and at the truth about Mathis’s conviction and Burrows’s killer. We see Hegarty meet up with his old crew to check that previous arrangements will withstand a new inspection. >

Have watched the first 4 episodes of this and have really enjoyed it so far....looking forward to the story unfolding further

    Looking forward to this.

Loved Jumbo in The Good Fight and whilst I didn't really like the show, Stay Close, I still watched it all as she was solid in that too.

Yes, just started this last week and have enjoyed it. Ron Livingston is perfect for the role

Interesting short series, I find it interesting as It's an area I'm very familiar with in Brisbane, I was in an adjoining suburb.

Excellent series with some outstanding acting. Both actors who played Eli were fantastic. Thought Simon Baker was excellent also

Was nice to watch as someone who grew up in Brisbane...although how they drove on the Story Bridge coming from Brookfield is beyond me 😂

Loving Reacher S2.   2 eps in and Reacher just seems more Reacherish.   He is darker and more intense in this one.   Just like I imagine him.    Having Neagley and O'Donnell making fun of him helps.     So far, so good.

    Regards Cazzesman

Agree, thoroughly enjoyed the first 3 episodes.

Great to see they are already filming S3
