  1. Hi, I'm thinking of getting the Yamaha 3900 receiver and the KEF 3005SE speakers. The only concern is that the yamaha output 140W per channel, and the KEFs can only handle 100W. Will there be a problem if i pair them together? If there is a problem, i can change the amp to something else but i'm dead set on getting those speakers coz i have small room and the big floor standing speakers are not an option. any suggestion guys?
  2. hi, Just wondering if the C509A can do upscaling of dvds to 1080p? If it can, how do i select the upscale option on the TV menu? Ive been looking at the options and cant find it. My bluray player has upscaling capability, but i wanna know if the TV can also do it as well just to see if it's any better. cheers
  3. when will there be more stock of the 1.5m hdmi cables?
  4. Hrmm we all know the LX are made in Japan. What i'm not sure is that, is the C509 panel made in japan also. I had a quick look in the shop and didnt see where it was made on the panel. All i saw was "made in china" down where the speaker is.
  5. is it on the back of the panel?
  6. yeah it doesnt say anything on the pioneer website but check this out http://www.jbhifi.com.au/pioneer-plasma/ you just have to ask for a redemption form where ever you bought it from. And i don't think it's JB only. The form is a Pioneer printed form in colours, not a JB made one. That was what i thought, i know the speaker and panel are 2 different units that can be detached. I dont see "made in japan" printed anywhere on the panel tho, maybe it was too dark in the show room.
  7. Well i just bought one yesterday (Saturday) for $3650 @ JB Elizabeth st, Melb. I was initial going there to buy the Panasonic V10 but after seeing the C509 in action i couldn't resist. Plus if you buy it from 1st October to 31 October you will get a free Pioneer Bluray player aswell. And if you're buying it from JB make sure u ask for a 'redemption' form for your bluray player because you can't download it online. I had to go back to the JB store to pick up the form today. My apology for hijacking the thread, but i have another question for the C509 owners here. I had a look at the back of the C509 today in JB (mine will be delivered next Saturday), where the speaker is, and it says "Made In China". I wasn't thinking about this and assumed it was made in Japan when i purchased the panel yesterday. Aren't all Pioneer plasmas made in Japan? cheers
  8. good links yorac..... ok think i'm goin with the 3808. The deciding factor for me is that the 3808 is made in japan and the 890 is made in china Have a few questions though. The 3808 is a 2 yrs old model, and when compare it with the newer 890 model theres a feature missing, Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Are there anything else thats missing? Will the 3808 decode all the latest formats? Also, the 3808 is using the older Faroudja DCDi chip, and as for the 890, it uses the newer Anchor Bay VRS ABT-2010 for upconversion and scaling to 1080p. So hows the quality of upconverion on the 3808?
  9. i forgot to mention that the Denon 890 is reduced to $1500-ish at HN... The 3808 is way too expensive @ 2300, even 2nd hand The Denon 890 can't be that bad, is it? It looks really good features wise. I just don't want to spend more than 1k extra on something that is just a lil bit better. arggg.... wat do do edit: Gotta get this straight, i wasnt goin to HN to look for advice on what speakers/amp to get. I was there to look for a TV cabinet and looked at the Panasonic V10 50 inch Plasma. I had a conversation with a dude there and he just gave his opinion about the Denon and Onkyo receivers.
  10. what AVR would you recommend then? 2.5k is the max i'd spend on an AVR.
  11. I'm in the northern suburbs. I have plenty of room so ventilation is not a problem and i would spend 1500-2000 max for the receiver. My budget for the speakers, sub and receiver is around 5k.
  12. Hi, I will be using the B&W685 as the mains, B&W686 as the rears, B&W HTM62 as the centre and a SVS 25-31 PCi sub in my HT setup. Now, I'm after a receiver and have narrowed down to these two, Denon AVR-890 and Onkyo TX-SR707. They have similar features and prices. I was initially wanting to get the Onkyo but went to Harvey Norman, spoke to a guy there and he said that the B&W speakers sound better with teh Denon. He said the Onkyo would not suit the B&W because it gives a "bright" sound. What ever that means. So im after your expert opinion. Please help.
  13. thanks to everyone.... base on ur replies, ive made up my mind about getting a 25-32 pci tuned to 22hz.
