i have also had issues with LG, one was a DVD player HTIB, it would overheat and stop playing the DVD it was the most useless piece of junk i ever bought, my house got it by lightning and killed the unit and i was so happy i could claim it on insurance and get rid of the piece of junk. mind you when it got hit by lightning i was surprised that they offered me a 'new' unit which looked exactly the same as mine just played avi. files now, thats 5 years later, they are still building the same shitty unit with a few extra features. I also bought a new house recently that has an LG air conditioner, last summer it started making a really horrible noise so called LG warranty, they asked if i had a receipt which i didnt as it came with the house, i asked them to check the serial number and it was infact in warranty but wouldnt provide a warranty repair without proof of purchase! what a load of crap ended up having to pay for the repair even thoug the thing was in warranty all because of red tape! I WILL NEVER EVER BUY LG AND TELL EVERYONE I MEET TO STAY AWAY FROM THEIR SHITTY PRODUCTS

Hi Mal, My TV is 1080i hd, but if i cant record in that format that dosent bother me. Basically i want to be able record the F1 and MotoGP from one HD, watch DVDs and play music via the DVD player to my reciever. If there is one unit that can do all this then that would be great, if not i might just have to buy a stand alone DVD player for the music/movies side of things and then a seperate box to record from the TV which i would like to avoin if possible (its just one more remote i would rather not have!)

Hi Guys, Up until now i have been using an LG mini stereo that is connected to my TV via RGB to watch my DVD's from, this stereo has now been moved to another room and i am looking to upgrade to a dedicated DVD player. Not sure what to look at but im after something that is full HD, something that has a few HDMI inputs so i can hook it up to my TV to watch moveis and my Reciever to play music from and if possible something that has a hard disk built in so i can recored TV shows to it from the HD channels. is there anything out there that can do all of this? Thanks Vukie

and Confirmed, picked up a VSX-919AH for $550 from JB, i ranf 4 stores, 2 were out of stock, 1 said the price is wrong and that it should be 698 and another store just did it for $550 without batting an eyelid, made me feel like i could have pushed him harder.... FYI the store i bought it from had them stickered at $999, i just told them i was quoted $550 and he had no problem making a sale

My local HN is selling off all of their demo speakers... whats peoples thoughts on this, they had 5 channel setups from jamo, yamaha, accusound that were all about 50% off is it worth the savings or are these things usually thrashed to buggery? -
just ordered mine today, website was easy to use and the 20% off was a bonus (though it seems your always having a sale ) will report back when they arrive

Hi all, Thanks for your help with my other thread, i have now decided to purchase a Pio VSX919 from JB while their sale is on, Would like to get a Set of book shelf speakers to pair it up to and if the budget allows a sub, can you guys recommend me anything? would be a bonus if i could get it from JB and see if they can discount it... but im prepared to shop around for a better price
-
parra edit: rang hornsby, they have 1x 919 left and said sticker price is $780, - 30% he said he can do it for $546
-
just got quoted $550 over the phone from JB for the 919, so i guess there is even more room to come down in price

Entry Level Avr's
Vukie1503561422 replied to Vukie1503561422's topic in Home Cinema General Discussion
thanks guys, looks like ill be heading into JB tomorrow during the day to pick myself up an PIO then Another question, i could probably afford to spend a little bit more then the $381 the 519V is going for, is it worth upgrading to the 819H? what are the differences between the 2 models, i see the 819 has ipod support and i dont think the 519 has, this is a feature i would like on the unit i dont see it on the JB website, do you think they would have it in store? Also the spec sheet says the amp makes 130w per channel, is this peak or RMS? And now that i have settled on an AVR, any recommendations on speakers? -

Hello all, looking to add an AVR and some bookshelf speakers to my recently purchased TV and am just after opinions on a good entry level (cheap) AVR. Will mainly be used for when im watching TV and ill start off with some simple bookshelf speakers and later on add a sub. what kind of $$$ am i looking at and what sort of features should i be looking for? Was looking at the Yamaha HTIB YHT-592 and wasnt impressed with the sound, mainly the volume, with such large speakers it didnt seem to play very loud. Im not an audiophile so a top notch setup isnt required im just after something that will reproduce sound better than the speakers that came with my TV and play fairly loud. Thanks, Vukie
