Oppo And Quickflix - Constant Buffering
dj898 replied to Ivanhoe's topic in Media Servers & Source Units
if it's the latest movies just off the cinema at 1080p quality then Vudu would be better alternative. they also offer TV series and you can buy the entire season as low as $5-6 (well depends the size of season) or about $15. I just watched the The Interview 1080p as rental for $5 over 48 hour period (you have about a month before starting to watch and 48 hours once you started just like most other online services). In fact I watched twice coz it's dame silly and mindless fun. with cheap SmartDNS (no VPN setup required) and US Paypal with my Aussie credit card it's child play to set up really... -
Material To Hide Ht Devices.
dj898 replied to NapoleonDynamite's topic in Home Cinema General Discussion
I housed all our HT gears inside one of front speaker cabinet in the media cabinet. As I used the free standing front speakers that I used previously those two slots were left empty. I put the subwoofer in one and all the HT gears in the other. These openings are covered with Aluminum grill and it doesn't hinder the IR signal. I did disassemble and reassemble so the gap in front of BL player has the double the gap so when the tray is open it will simply pops out of the grill to take the disc in. And since these grills are rather heavy and fixed in place our kids cannot accidently open them either. p.s. I was lucky to score the dedicated media cabinet for just $700 as the hi-fi ship that did our HT installation was trying to flock off it as part of their show room reno. I picked up the media cabinet as well as unused motorized LP Morgan screen for $500 as well. -
I have 1000i but now it's doing our master bedroom duty with display monitor/AVR/FetchTV/Bookshelf Speakers. I switched to Harmony Ultimate when it was on sale during last Christmas and it really works well. Have about 8 devices at our TV room controlled by it and missus and kids find it very easy to use. And self fixing menu is god send for missus so she can fix if case kids muck up during the turn on sequence.

if you can find the Beyonwiz DP-P2 that should be a good choice even though it's old and no longer in sale. I have one of early one factory refurbished and with the ICETV it's dandy to use. I can setup the recording when I hear a new/interesting program from my iPhone on the spot and it will record the show at home at the designated time. And it works well with series recording and seems to keep up with broadcaster's ad-hoc change in time - NINE/TEN.

New House Build With Movie/music Room
dj898 replied to jutta's topic in Room Acoustics, Construction and Design
don't forget to ask the builder about the type of Gyprock(?) or insulation that deaden the sound. We have that in our TV room as well as the guest room which has the Corrugated roof over it. -
Ceiling Mount Projector Install Cost
dj898 replied to GavinsProjector's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
during the construction talk to the carpenter to have one or two timber beams installed running parallel on the ceiling and make sure all the cables are put in place before the false ceiling panel is going up. don't forge to have the GPO installed close to where the projector is to be mounted. And from memory used the panels with soundproof for the TV room - they were more expensive than normal Gyrocks... I did this and it made world of difference - the installers drilled the mounting brackets onto the place and then fix the projector and plug'd in. For cables as I was going to have ceiling mounted rear speaker after cur out the holes they simply pushed in their arm to grab the cable to connect to speakers before pushed back into the holes. Then as all the cables already in place and coming out through the hole on the lower side of wall they put the plate and tied up before plug's in the cables and did the rest... -
I was lucky to score second hand new in the box LP Morgan Rondo motorized screen and very happy with it. don't see any issue and the projected image looks great. ^ ^

check your local and/or not so local hi-fi shops about any unused demo for sale. these shops do renovate their demo room(s) and sometimes they put aside the unit for the next renovation but for number of reasons never get around to use although already opened box and etc. in that case you could get practically brand new one for the second hand price.

Looking Into Projector And Screen
dj898 replied to Aussiekev1503564460's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
[quote name=' timestamp='1365454318' post='1877975] neither seen that in lp morgan rondo screens which are a stretchy material with a heavy bar. +1 I have LP Morgan Rondo motorized screen and it does have the heavy bar at the bottom and the screen is as flat as it gets. -
during the designing stage and during the construction stage make sure the room is perfectly square at least the wall where the screen will be on in relation to the side walls. Then have the professional to install the screen and the projector. Only saying this since the room is dedicated HT room and it wouldn't hurt to install properly assuming the OP isn't technically advanced unlike me.
-
since it's dedicated HT room shouldn't that be the hindrance? I mean one can mount the projector up on the ceiling as required thus negating the need of lens shift? In that case I think the price difference between 6100 and 9100 is very attractive. Also don't forget being the dedicated HT room the lighting issue should be easy to control thus 6100 should do the job nicely. I went with 6000W based on that assumption and it's working just fine and I did save fair amount of money that I spend on the cheap deal on the motorized screen and dedicated media cabinet both as the demo room unused stock.

Hdmi And 'sparkles' In My Picture
dj898 replied to mgrobins's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
problem is there's a lag when video source is changing. not sure with the aftermarket but my Epson WirelessHD has about 1+ sec of delay when changing the source. -
doesn't the screen has the remote sensor? I set up my Harmony 1100i so when firing up for movie it turn on all of necessary equipment in turn with the screen half way and PJ at the last so the WirelessHD can pick up the signal rather than timing out. For PJ itself the bounced IR signal off the front wall/TV works well to trigger on/off although I'm looking at the IR blaster setup as I'm thinking of moving all other equipment to RF setup.

Best G-Rated Blu-Ray To Show-Off Projector?
dj898 replied to timhet1503564719's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
I heard "Cars" is almost reference quality and often used to test for CG movie performance comparison. -
[quote name=' timestamp='1360369948' post='1864846] I think we have made some pains to mention in this thread many times that the 6100 has no image shift. not sure why people go for it. return it. get it swapped for 8000/9000 series. Had mine ceiling mount spot on so there really was no need for image shift and I could spend the saving on other things. Sure not everyone is going to do ceiling mount but if you have control how and where to mount your 6000/6100 then don't see why one has to have 8000/9000 series at more cost.

don't forget to scout HT shops for the bargain. often they keep stock for their demo room but for what ever reason never used and sell them at much cheaper price if you ask. I got 100" Londo motorized screen still in box for 500 from one of shop when they were doing the reno. Also picked up their demo media cabinet for 750 that they are selling much higher. And don't underestimate the price matching. I got Pana 65ST50 under 2150 after price matching and got my 6000W just under 200 cheaper from online shop. I too have the room in similar size although the double doors are on one side and very narrow window on the other covered with blockout curtains. At the back wall I put the floor to ceiling DVD shelving and the false ceiling with enough wires for 7.1 speakers arrangement as well as Ethernet, HDMI and Halgon downlights with dimmer switch. Plus GPO on the ceiling for the ceiling mount projector. And the false ceiling has the sound proof material and the walls are double brick and floor is covered with carpet as it's the bamboo floor.

I bought pair of Panasonic kids size 3D glass but they were for 6000W. I believe 6100W is using BT rather than IR. Not sure whether Panasonic has the BT version of their kids size 3D glass as it was really light and although kids size S does fit missus as well. My youngest is 5yo and she has no problem waring it.

Convert Me From Panel To Projector...please!
dj898 replied to stevedore's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
it comes down to the convenience really. with projector I have to wait for the motorized screen to drop and the AVR and BL player turn on and sync to channel signal properly, not to mention for the projector's WirelessHD to sync the signal as well. Compared to that it's snazzy to turn on TV and AVR to watch the FTA... Initially thinking of totally dedicated HT room where to watch the movies but during the design stage I changed mind and decided only rooms in the house with TV on will be TV room, Master bedroom and Guest room which is on the ground floor unlike other bedrooms all on the first floor. That way kids know they are allowed to watch TV on special occasion and on really special occasion they can watch their favourite DVD/BL. I had the carpenter to put the built-in shelf at the back wall of TV room from ceiling to floor where I put all our DVD/BL library (except several R rated and horror films so little ones cannot accidently pull 'em out.) -
Convert Me From Panel To Projector...please!
dj898 replied to stevedore's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
maybe I can be of some help. ^ ^ I have both 65ST50 as well as Epson WirelessHD projector onto 100" (limited due to the size of the room) motorized screen. IMHO both have their place - TV is handy for quick watching or catch up FTA recordings from the IceTV compatible PVR while Epson is great watching the blu-ray (2D & 3D) as the treat to whole family. If you can get 'em both and put the screen dropping down in front of the TV so you can watch either of them depends on your mood... -
sound like logically one should get the pirated version instead of half-broken retail disc...

Fs: Panasonic 3D Glasses Ty-Er3D4Sw $55 Posted
dj898 replied to AMCNAD's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
try bigbrownbag I got four of size S models from them as our kids and their friend needed 'em -
well I don't have the old flat panel TV but rather old flat panel monitor that I've been using as our main TV since 2001. Cost me bomb back then but served us well for last 11 years as our main and sole TV. Now we moved to new house it has moved to our master bedroom and our main TV is 100" 3D projector. ^ ^ I do have LED panel TV for our guest room which is handy as I can watch iView and SBSOnDemand.

obviously the code for the LP Morgan remote was not on Harmony's dB but quick learning sorted that out. I let missus and kids use Harmony 1100i that I picked up as almost new second hand and it works really well for them - they really like the big channel icons so instead of flipping the channel they can simply touch their fav ABC2/ABC3...

Unless you have some compelling reason for 120" if I were you I will get LP Morgan at 110" size if the price is right. The shop near where I live has that Screen Technics screen but the shop owner won't demo the motorized screen saying unless I'm genuine buyer he couldn't be bothered (i.e. He asked me to pay the consultation fee so he can visit our home to give detailed advise as well as demo the gears I have in mind, yer right~). To that I replied unless you were genuine in selling I'm going to the other shop at Lane Cove who was more than willing to demo a lot of stuff.
