Interested to hear your take on the Yammy and Unison Research.
Have you tried Unico? I haven't but their hybrid and tube amps look very appealing.
I have heard Harbeths paired with a Luxman 550 AX, very good.
If I had a pair of Harbeth speakers I would hope the Rega orLeben sounded best, they pair with the speakers in other less obvious ways.
Well everyone is different I preferred Naim to Luxman in the same room and setup. Unico wasn't available but secondo was really good sounding. I think secondo sounded little better than Naim because of hybrid design and hint of tube like character. But again this is my own experience.

I've been using a sub with my 30.1's for a couple of years - it does add another dimension to the sound, but I found them quite satisfactory without the sub for a few years prior to that.
As far as amps go, I've used quite a few - including an ARC VS55, Quad 909, Odyssey Khartago, Xindak PAM-20, Halcro MC30 and (diy) Pass F6.
These ranged from 20 to well over 200W/ch. The only amp that I thought didn't mate well was the 20W Class A Xindak - sounded kind of sluggish and non-engaging.
Perhaps surprisingly then, my favourite of the bunch (and current amp) is the DIY F6 which is a 25W/8ohm class A design. This amp sounds wonderfully lively and involving with the m30.1's, with a gorgeous harmonic quality that's quite addictive.
Hi Tobes,
thanks for sharing your experience. Still hunting integrated amps as I have enough time before my new house is finished. Was lucky enough to try Luxman 505ux and Naim Nait XS2 under one roof and preferred the sound of Naim which is less powerful than Luxman.

This certainly gives me some concern however will judge once I have heard with my own ears. I have shortlisted integrated amps for my Harbeths and A-S2100 is part of that list to demo.
It's even suggested by Harbeth forum members so definitely this can't be that "bright"...? Let's see

Awesome feedback everyone. I made an attempt to listen to few that were dangling on my mind and feel at ease now that I did as I was able to cross some of them off my list.
One important thing I realized after reading reviews and listening with my own ears is that sometimes another person's experience is totally different to one's own. I guess as we mature our ears frequency change as well..haha..
Not good with words but below is what I experienced listening all under one roof.
Summary with key words
Arcam A39 Nice warm sound, airy top end, Bottom ok crossed off
NAD C388 similar to Arcam bottom more controlled crossed off
Peachtree Nova150 surprisingly sounds warm but Rega Elex R was better for the price. crossed off
Rega Elex R, warm sound, spacious and good bottom end.
Rega Elicit R Slightly warm, top end less spacious than Elex R but more clear and has more details, bottom end more controlled. Vocals sounds natural and better. This does not sound lean to me. Demoed with KEF PMC, Elac. Unfortunately cant demo with Harbeths.
Next up is Yamaha A-S2100 and Unison Research gear. Have to find nearest dealer with Luxman stuff.

I read some good reviews on Peachtree but didn't see anyone mentioning with Harbeths.

Here you are, go nuts......
Thanks will look into it.
I guess going integrated route with 851n is still a great option.

Please let me know if the 505ux or 507ux comes up in classifieds. I might consider it if the price and condition is good. Thanks
-
My options are quite flexible at the moment.
Was thinking about Cambridge 851N streamer, do you think a separate power amp would be a better choice here if going this route?

OK, I've got an April Music Stello AI500 that has a nice musical DAC in it. It tended towards a touch of dryness in my opinion but I don't think that will be an issue when combined with Harbeths and jazz or classical music.
Fire me off a PM if you are interested. Asking price is circa $2K.
Thanks I will PM if I'm interested looking around and trying to demo the available options at the moment.

Mostly Jazz, classical, instrumentals

Hi Folks,
I have finally decided to go with 30.1 however confused with amp matching for these speakers.
Rega elicit r was on my list but others have suggested that I can get equally better sound for less. Not sure as I can't try all under the same roof.
Sudgen A21a
Yamaha A-S1100
Arcam FMJ a39
Primare I32
I believe most like to have that tube like sound quality but have power of a SS amp. I guess at this price point choices maybe limited.
Thanks

Appreciate all the great feedback and comments so far! Certainly leaning towards Harbeths at the moment.
Plus someone asked what about LS50 wife said no as she said they look weird. Cant argue there but no doubt they sound fantastic for their size!
-
Basically its just one of the smaller bedrooms I'm converting into dedicated listening rig. Interms of placement and playing around with room treatment would not be a big issue.
Personally I dig the shape and size of 30.1s on the dedicated stands and in person they look marvellous. I think I can pull it off with low to medium listening levels!
I'm now wondering whether this is better than PMC twenty5.22 as I cant remember all the details but clarity and natural voicing comes to mind when I think of Harbeths and big bass with PMCs.

Be very careful about overloading a 3m x 3m room. I have standmounts in my 5m x 3.5m room and they can easily overload the room. I had to use bass traps to assist with the room modes and shedloads of absorption panels to balance things out.
The room modes you will get in a 3x3 room are going to suck out any bass you think you are going to get with bigger speakers. So unless you want to be permanently dissatisfied with bass performance OR want to spend $$$ on room treatment, go for Harbeth P3ESR and never look back!
The smaller brother is sealed design didn't listen to it. Does it have better bass than 30.1s?
-
Hi Blybo good point. Yes agree did a low listening test, PMC sing well mid to higher volume as the bass become substantial as well.
Bass is good though on these things that's why little concerned that I might miss it from time to time if I go with Harbeths.

Hi AussieMick,
I agree with your experience on 25.22 and 25.23.

Confused state!
Made a long trip to hear Harbeth's as this was on my shortlist against the ATCs. ATC's now dropped off the list and now its PMC twenty5 series against the Harbeths.
Listened to Harbeth's (30.1 and SHL5 plus 40th anniversary model) extensively with Classical, acoustics, Jazz and Instruments. The mids to upper frequencies were excellent and very natural however lacked the bottom end. Sounded more like planars to be honest it was that clear but never fatiguing. FYI I couldn't pinpoint huge difference between the two models when listening to the same tracks and switching one after another in A/B comparison.
Now cant do back to back listening against the PMCs (5.22 and 5.23) but heard them separately and the obvious difference is bottom end.
In my 3m x 3m room not sure what would be better and I like them both for different reasons.
The other side of the spectrum I will have Rega Elicit R (change from Anthems) with Cambridge Audio 851N streamer.
My question is did anyone had a chance to compare similar brands or these specific models and what were your preferences. Obviously the amps and source matters as well.
Not sure which way to go??????
Thanks

Thanks everyone for their feedback. Will keep this in mind as will try few other options. However I did listen to Rega Elicit R with PMC twenty5 and thought it sounded wonderful , natural, and 'warmer' than Plinius 880. I cant demo Harbeths yet but will wait for July Syd Audio Show which is just around the corner.

Hi Folks,
Was wondering if anyone has successfully paired Harbeth Speakers with Rega Amps?
To be more specific will Rega Elicit R with Harbeth 30.1 be a good combo for a small room? Listening levels will be low to medium range.
Would love to hear from people who have experienced this combo or something better in a similar price range.
Thanks

I was really surprised at how good the Twenty5.22 was competed with the floor standing models. I thought it comprehensively outperformed the 23 in most ways, and it wasn't until the two big floorstanders entered the frame that the bigger boxes made sense.
The 22 did the same things you describe, terrific detail beautifully integrated, played soft and loud (for a stand mount). Beautiful.
Mick.
I agree with Aussie listened to them recently somehow I felt the 5.22 performed better or on par with 5.23, this was in a med sized room. Listened to them using Rega Elicit R and Plinius Inspire 880. Both integrated amps sounded excellent. Rega was smooth and sounded little bit more organic with vocals. Just my thoughts.

Anyone has or experienced Rega with Harbeth combo? Specifically Rega Elicit R with 30.1? For low to med listening will this be a good match?
Thanks

Hi Bronal thanks for the advice I will consider looking into it.
Just curious about amp pairing with Harbeths. Have read some threads that specific brands of amps does not matter much as long as there is sufficient power to drive them is this true?
I believe more than amp the source of the music might contribute towards the difference in sound signature!
Have Anthems MCA 225 which is not a very special amp but I think interms of power it should be good say with 301.?
Also those who have 30.1 in small to med sized rooms do you need a sub or the speakers themselves are sufficient for most types of music?
Any advice or feedback on this would be grateful. thanks
