Yamaha TRUE X 90A Soundbar Packs Class-Leading Features & Wireless Surrounds

Yamaha has officially launched its most advanced sound bar system to date — the TRUE X 90A.

The TRUE X 90A headlines Yamaha’s TRUE X family and is pitched squarely at those who want immersive, cinema-style sound without the rack of separates. Built around a three-piece configuration — sound bar, wireless subwoofer, and rear surrounds — the system integrates Yamaha’s proprietary True X Surround engine, designed in-house to deliver spatial, lifelike performance across Dolby Atmos and DTS:X content.

Unlike many traditional sound bars, Yamaha’s approach here feels more like the AVENTAGE of lifestyle AV — drawing on its AV receiver pedigree to deliver room-filling clarity, presence, and punch, all within a clean, cable-free setup. And a dash of the brand’s high-end Hi-Fi DNA doesn’t hurt either.

Boyd Gill, Yamaha Music Australia’s Product Manager, told StereoNET:

We wanted to create something that not only sounds cinematic, but feels immersive in every sense — and without the usual complexity, TRUE X 90A is about real surround sound made effortless.

Inside the SR-X90A is what Yamaha describes as a 19-speaker array, featuring twelve beam drivers (six on each side for height effects), four full-range speakers, and three tweeters — all working together to create a spacious, immersive soundstage. A wireless subwoofer and a pair of WS-X3A rear surrounds come as standard as part of the package.

Yamaha says a dedicated centre channel ensures dialogue remains focused and intelligible, while its Clear Voice Enhancer dynamically adjusts vocal presence based on the content — designed to prevent dialogue from being drowned out by action scenes or dense scores. Voice Mode and Night Mode provide further clarity for late-night viewing without raising the overall volume.

Yamaha also brings its DSP know-how to the fore with SURROUND:AI, which analyses audio in real time and adjusts processing to match the mood or content. With support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, 4K/60, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision passthrough, the TRUE X 90A aims to function as a high-performance AV hub, not just an audio add-on.

All components in the system connect wirelessly, helping to maintain a clean, cable-free aesthetic. HDMI eARC ensures seamless TV connectivity, while Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, and Spotify Connect are supported for everyday streaming.

Control is handled via Yamaha’s MusicCast Controller app — the same platform used across its broader MusicCast multiroom ecosystem. The app allows users to adjust volume, input selection, surround levels, and even the overhead channel beam angle, as well as link the TRUE X 90A to other MusicCast-enabled devices for whole-home audio.

Yamaha’s pitch here is unambiguous: this is not a step-up model for casual TV watchers, but a flagship system designed for listeners who want immersive, room-filling audio with lifestyle-friendly convenience. And with the subwoofer and rear surrounds bundled in as standard — no upsell required — the TRUE X 90A sets out to be a fully self-contained system that doesn’t require an AV amplifier or rack full of components.

This places Yamaha in direct competition with some of the most ambitious players in the high-end sound bar space, including Sennheiser’s AMBEO series, Devialet’s Dione, Bang & Olufsen’s Beosound Stage, and even modular systems like Sony’s HT-A9 with optional subwoofers. In each case, the focus is on immersive sound, minimalist hardware, and a single-brand ecosystem — a formula Yamaha clearly wants to stake its claim on.

Yamaha’s no stranger to home cinema — it’s been a heavyweight in that space for decades. Now it's applying its AVENTAGE-grade expertise to the soundbar category in a focused push at the premium end. Whether the TRUE X 90A can hold its own against the best in the segment is something we’ll be putting to the test. Look out for StereoNET’s full review of the Yamaha TRUE X 90A coming soon.

The Yamaha TRUE X SURROUND 90A system is available late August / early September from authorised Yamaha retailers and is priced at A$4,499 | £2,499 with availability for other regions to be confirmed soon.
