StereoNET’s Rob Follis Selects Eclipse Playlist

StereoNET's Rob Follis Chooses His #EclipsePlaylist12
Some may know Rob as StereoNET's Global Business Development Director; however, Eclipse has also dubbed him an "audio industry legend, both here in the UK and now in his new home of Australia", and who are we to argue?

Rob's history with Eclipse goes back to him being the manufacturer's original PR specialist right up until 2014.
Eclipse states:
As a newcomer to the home audio industry, over 20 years ago, we were absolutely delighted to receive so much positive coverage and feedback from the press – down to the efforts and talents of Rob.
Upon offering his dozen selected tracks, Rob told Eclipse:
I worked for most of my life in the UK Hi-Fi industry and now live in Melbourne, driving the global growth of the StereoNET group of websites. All these are tracks I have listened to recently, usually on Eclipse TD-M1 Desktop Monitors which flank my computer screen.

Rob's playlist is as follows and can be enjoyed on Spotify and Qobuz:
1. Handel's Music For The Royal Fireworks - Alison Balsom
A spellbinding modern version, crystalline trumpet and a tremendous sense of occasion. The overture captures the essence but do try to find the whole performance.
2. American Dream - JS Ondara
Totally unknown to me until it popped up on Qobuz, a fresh, original voice, fabulous arrangements and what a song.
3. Come Together - The Beatles
This is such a great track, from that first lick, through the rumbling bassline, growing in intensity all the way. Giles Martin's remastering is pretty damn good too.
4. Beauty Way - Eliza Gilkyson
I used to despise country until a friend turned me on to alt-country. Live, song, voice, guitar and then the band kicks in!
5. Darling Lorraine - Paul Simon
I could fill my list with Paul Simon, but this one is extra special, the emotion in the lyrics can bring me to tears.
6. Dark Star - Grateful Dead
There had to be one 23-minute track in here. This is a long, slow burn, all the better for being live.
7. Amado Mio - Pink Martini
So full of life, infectious rhythms, China Forbe's voice and a detailed, layered soundscape from this Portland, Oregon based multi-cultural orchestra.
8. The Mission - Yoyo Ma / Morricone
The trifecta, a stunning movie soundtrack, one of Morricone's best tunes and the incomparable Yoyo Ma.
9. Walk On The Wild Side - Lou Reed
May be an advertising cliche but, from the plucked bass to the snare to the Doo Wop this is one of his best. Check out the back story to the lyrics and preferably listen in 24/96 to hear the detail.
10. Dance Me To The End of Love - Leonard Cohen
Leonard Live In Dublin on his 2014' pension' tour. A perfect tribute and insane band, with a gorgeous arrangement highlighting the poetry of his lyrics and that astoundingly deep dark voice.
11. Orphan Girl (alternate version) - Gillian Welch
Another alt-country singer and this is from a recent 'official bootleg' album Boots No 1.
12. Murder Most Foul - Bob Dylan
Long, slow and totally compelling. Brilliant lyrics twisting music and movie titles, real-life and fantasy, spot the quote.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
