Sound Service UK, a leading pro-audio distributor, has finalised an agreement to become the exclusive UK distributor for Imersiv Audio, described as “the groundbreaking division of Millennia Media Systems.”

This partnership introduces Imersiv's HDR-A (High Dynamic Range Audio) technology to the UK professional audio market, led by the D-1 DAC, which is said to “redefine the state of the art in digital-to-analogue conversion.”

Founded in 1990, Millennia Media Systems has established a strong reputation in professional audio. With over 50,000 recording channels in use globally, Millennia microphone preamplifiers are considered the industry standard for Hollywood film scores, classical music, and high-end acoustic productions.

Their equipment has played a key role in landmark recordings at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Centre, the Berlin Philharmonic, and Juilliard. It is featured in film scores, symphonic recordings, and broadcast productions worldwide. In 2019, Millennia's HV-3D microphone preamplifier technology was inducted into the NAMM Technology Hall of Fame, recognising the company's lasting impact on the audio industry.

For 35 years, Millennia's design philosophy has focused on creating accurate, neutral, and dynamically stable audio instruments at all price points. This dedication has earned the company over 30 industry awards and recognition as a standard of professional excellence.

The D-1 DAC is Millennia's most ambitious achievement to date. Based on a patented HDR-A multi-path architecture developed over 10 years, the D-1 delivers a true 28-bit dynamic range, reportedly surpassing the measurement capabilities of current test equipment.

Unlike conventional single-path DACs, which balance headroom and noise floor, the D-1 uses multiple DAC cores optimised for different signal levels. These are combined to provide exceptional clarity across the full dynamic range.

With self-noise of only 40 nanovolts, making it 100 times quieter than leading conventional converters, and headroom of +22dBu with zero inter-sample overs, the D-1 is designed to reveal spatial and timbral details that single-path converters often obscure.

We’re told that “over 40 Grammy-winning and platinum recording engineers have evaluated the D-1, with responses such as “a revelation”, “astonishing,” and “like hearing my music library for the first time." Furthermore, it’s reported that engineers at world-class facilities, from Skywalker Ranch to Hollywood scoring stages, have said clients have mistaken the D-1's stereo output for immersive 3D mixes.

Ian Young, Managing Director at Sound Service UK, told StereoNET:

We're thrilled to bring Imersiv to the UK market. The D-1 represents a genuine paradigm shift in digital audio conversion. Millennia's 35-year track record of innovation and its aerospace-grade manufacturing standards make this a perfect addition to our portfolio. UK professionals deserve access to technology that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in audio reproduction.

The Imersiv D-1 DAC is now available through Sound Service UK, offering British audio professionals the opportunity to experience the future of digital audio conversion.
