Sony is doubling down on its “Cinema is Coming Home” vision with a major expansion of its premium home entertainment lineup. The company has unveiled two new BRAVIA True RGB televisions—the flagship BRAVIA 9 II and the BRAVIA 7 II—alongside the BRAVIA Theatre Trio wireless audio system designed to deliver cinema‑grade sound in living rooms.
The first point of interest is that the new True RGB platform is being unleashed in two tiers with these televisions, rather than Sony keeping the new tech purely for a flagship model. Not only does this mean you get options as you look up the BRAVIA line, with the BRAVIA 8 II OLED sitting above the newcomers, but it also means True RGB is already scalable for Sony.
Both TVs use Sony’s new RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro, which independently drives red, green and blue LEDs. The result, we’re told, is the largest colour volume Sony has ever achieved in a home TV, with brighter highlights, purer colours and consistent accuracy even in bright rooms or wide seating layouts. Screen sizes range from 50 to 98 inches across six options on the 7 II, while the 9 II comes in four sizes, topping out at a huge 115‑inch option.
Yoshihiro Ono, Head of Sony’s Home Entertainment Business Unit, says the technology embodies a major leap forward. “Our new True RGB combines the precision of individually controlled RGB LEDs with the best aspects of both Mini LED and OLED,” he explains.
BRAVIA 9 II: Sony’s Most Advanced True RGB TV
The flagship BRAVIA 9 II pushes the technology further with newly developed LED controllers that deliver Sony’s purest primary colours to date. Sony states its RGB Triluminos Max and Luminance Booster Pro systems expand colour volume and preserve accurate hues even at high brightness levels—ideal for sunny living rooms.
A new Immersive Black Screen Pro treatment is designed to reduce glare and reflections while preserving deep blacks and fine shadow detail, even in daylight. Sony Pictures Entertainment collaborated to evaluate the surface film to ensure the TV retains the filmmaker’s intent across various lighting conditions.
The BRAVIA 9 II also upgrades audio with Acoustic Multi‑Audio+, including up‑firing beam tweeters that create a more enveloping cinematic soundstage, according to the brand.
Both True RGB models support My Cinema, Ambient Optimisation, and “Studio Calibrated” modes for major streaming providers, as well as formats including Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX Enhanced.
BRAVIA Theatre Trio: Cinema‑Grade Sound, Reimagined for the Home
Sony’s new BRAVIA Theatre Trio is a premium wireless three‑speaker system designed for ultra‑large screens. Developed in close collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the Trio aims to reproduce the emotional impact of professional film sound.
The system features dedicated left, right and centre speakers that create a wide, immersive soundstage with exceptionally clear dialogue. Academy Award–nominated sound mixer Tony Lamberti applauded its spatial performance, saying it “fully envelops you in sound and delivers a truly immersive, cinematic experience.”
Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology generates up to 24 phantom speakers, using room reflections to mimic the acoustics of a cinema. A new high‑performance USB‑C microphone improves room calibration accuracy, ensuring the system adapts precisely to any space.
The Trio supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX Enhanced, and can be expanded with optional subwoofers and rear speakers.
Sony has also introduced Direct Connect, allowing compatible BRAVIA TVs to pair directly with wireless subs and rears without a soundbar.
Sustainability gets a boost too, with recycled and renewable plastics used throughout the lineup, including components made from repurposed cooking oil in the BRAVIA 9 II.
