If last year’s 5-metre boutique cinema model and premium theatre 10-metre model of Samsung’s Onyx wasn’t enough, its latest 14-metre cinema LED display might be what you’re looking for.

Promising to deliver deep blacks, rich colour and striking contrast, Samsung has added a new 14-metre model to its Onyx cinema LED lineup at CinemaCon 2026. The new model is designed for Premium Large Format (PLF) theatres and delivers the same picture quality, reliability and scalability that define the Onyx platform at a larger scale.
As cinemas raise the bar on premium, differentiated experiences, larger-format auditoriums are becoming a key priority for exhibitors. Samsung’s new 14-metre format is designed to meet this demand – enabling greater immersion, optimised seating layouts and more efficient use of theatre space.

Hyoung Jae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics, told StereoNET:
People go to premium theatres for something they cannot recreate at home. That raises the bar for every part of the auditorium, starting with the screen. Samsung’s new 14-metre Onyx gives exhibitors a way to bring the premium experience to larger auditoriums, helping turn moviegoing into a superior, immersive experience.
New For The Format
The new model supports up to 4K 120Hz, promising exceptional clarity and ultra-smooth motion, and introduces two further distinctions tailored to the 14-metre format.

Firstly, 3.3mm pixel pitch optimised for the 14-metre format to deliver sharp, consistent image quality on a larger screen. Additionally, flexible scaling support enables the 14-metre format. This allows expansion up to 20 metres – “more than doubling total screen area without compromising presentation quality.” This is apparently achieved by adding individual LED cabinets along the sides and at the bottom to reach the desired size, “creating a seamless, floor-to-ceiling visual experience.”
As the world’s first DCI-certified cinema LED display, Onyx supports both scope (2.39:1) and flat (1.85:1) aspect ratios. Samsung’s HDR technology claims a peak brightness of up to 300 nits, approximately 6 times the brightness of conventional cinema standards.

Moreover, we are informed that Onyx achieves 100% colour volume at peak brightness, while its infinite contrast ratio enables true black levels for deeper immersion and greater detail in dark scenes.
Premium Cinema Experience
Examples of premium cinemas adopting Onyx displays include Pathé Dar Essalam in Rabat, Morocco, where the latest Onyx has been installed as part of a newly developed cinema complex in the city’s luxury district.

Here, all four auditoriums are equipped with Onyx displays in 10-metre, 5-metre, and scaled 6.4-metre configurations. With 12 Onyx screens in total, Pathé now operates more Onyx screens than any other cinema company in Europe.
Meanwhile, in the USA, Trilith Cinemas in Fayetteville, Georgia, became the first U.S. theatre to premiere the latest generation of Samsung Onyx cinema LED screens, installing them across five auditoriums.
Of course, Onyx goes beyond traditional movie screenings. The technology is also well-suited for alternative content such as live sports, concerts, gaming events and corporate presentations. Unlike conventional projection-based systems, the Onyx LED screen delivers consistent brightness and image quality regardless of screen size or seating position.
Finally, compatibility with Dolby and GDC media servers also helps support streamlined theatre management.
