Called succinctly the Ruark R7, the new ‘gram takes its styling cue from the Decca, Krieslers and Dansettes that were all the rage way back in the late fifties through the sixties and early seventies.
But that’s where any similarity with those iconic models ends. Inside the R7 are thoroughly modern circuits and components including a FAB+/FM/internet radio tuners, slot-loading CD disc spinner, Bluetooth (apX), DNLA wireless WiFi, two analogue and two digital inputs (one coaxial, the other optical) and of course some ubiquitous USB inputs.
The R7 is described as a kosher 2.1 channel model fitted with bass reflex baffles driven by a in-house designed class A/B amp said to generate ‘160-watts nominal’.
Built-in speakers comprise two 140mm dual concentric coaxial drivers and a lone 203mm bass driver.
The cabinetry which is sumptuous as well as gorgeous is made from real walnut with glass and aluminium providing an extra touch of class.
Ruark provides a natty TotoDial remote with the R7 and all controls are replicated from the front facia of the R7 in case the remote disappears. The R7 is a decent size measuring 175mm wide, 1000mm high and 400mm deep.
We love it and know you will too, But to get one to grace your living or listening room requires you stump up $3699, a not unreasonable amount of sugar for what’s a statement piece of audio art.
