At a time when the modern music landscape can feel a little chaotic, the company is leaning back into something simpler, steadier and unmistakably analogue. Its new Grandmaster Audio Cassette range in C60 and C90 lengths forms part of a wider effort to reaffirm that heritage as interest in the format continues to rise.

Back in September, StereoNET reported on Revox’s renewed investment in cassette production, including its work with National Audio Company and the re-establishment of European tape manufacturing. That announcement hinted that more developments were coming, and today’s Grandmaster release is the first substantial outcome of that strategy.

Each cassette uses a newly produced Type I Ferro formulation developed exclusively for Revox, designed to deliver consistent results with any deck set to a Normal Position profile. The tape sits inside a custom screw-fastened shell engineered for stability and longevity complete with a reusable recording lock to prevent accidental overwriting. It’s a thoughtful upgrade over the old method many will remember, which involved snapping out the plastic tabs on the top of the cassette and then covering the holes with sticky tape again if a re-record was needed!

The presentation is equally considered. Each unit comes with a triple J-card offering ample space for notes and track details, a transparent snap-box, and two sheets of stickers for additional labelling. Both C60 and C90 variants are manufactured at the Revox facility in Villingen, Germany. European pricing positions the Grandmaster line firmly at the premium end of the current blank tape market, with C60 packs priced at €45 for five and €79 for ten, and C90 packs at €50 and €89 respectively.

Revox’s latest move strengthens its role in the ongoing cassette resurgence, bringing new, high-quality media into a space that has seen growing demand but limited supply. And while the audio world can sometimes feel a little like a jungle the return of a well-made analogue cassette is a reminder that not every format has to fight for survival. For those still recording to tape or returning to the craft, the Grandmaster series offers proof that some ideas don’t fade, they just wait for the right moment to come back.
