REL Revamps Serie S Subwoofer Range for Greater Speed, Scale & Authority

REL Acoustics has announced a complete overhaul of its Serie S line, one of the brand's most recognisable families of subwoofers.

The new models are said to dig deeper, start and stop faster, and integrate more seamlessly than before, thanks to wider, lower cabinets, redesigned CarbonAlloy™ drivers, and more powerful Class D amplification. With optional premium wood grilles and wireless Airship Direct™ compatibility, REL says the new Serie S elevates design as much as sound.

The S/550 combines a 550-watt Pure Class D amplifier at the entry point with a 10-inch CarbonAlloy active driver and 12-inch down-firing passive radiator. It’s aimed at medium rooms and balanced systems, promising speed, control, and surprising scale from a compact enclosure.

The S/850 raises the bar with an 850-watt Linear Class D amplifier and a 12-inch CarbonAlloy active driver paired with a long-stroke passive radiator. Borrowing from REL’s Reference line, it targets medium-to-large rooms with a blend of explosive dynamics and nuance, positioning itself as the “sweet spot” in the range.

For those chasing flagship performance in a medium chassis, the Carbon Special Black Label is built around a pure carbon fibre 12-inch driver derived from the Reference No.31. Backed by a 900-watt Linear Class D amplifier and increased cabinet volume, it promises breathtaking dynamics and authority. This limited model is only available through select Black Label stockists and ships with the premium wood grille as standard.

Sitting at the top is the S/212 Black Label, described as the most powerful expression of Serie S. It features four 12-inch drivers — two active and two passive — delivering more than 450 square inches of surface area, anchored by a 1,000-watt amplifier. REL pitches this as the “Swiss Army knife” of the range, designed to handle the largest reference-grade stereo systems and theatres with unmatched scale, speed, and authority.
All models in the new Serie S are available in black or white finishes, with the Black Label editions finished exclusively in black. In addition to single-unit use, REL supports stereo pairs and line array configurations for listeners seeking floor-to-ceiling bass impact.
