Rega's Nd series takes its name from the rare earth element Neodymium. This series of MM cartridges is said to be the first to utilise a neodymium N55 magnet, the world's most powerful commercially available magnet.

As with its sibling, the Nd5 is meticulously handmade by highly skilled technicians and features a brand-new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve highly accurate channel balance.

Furthermore, we're told that the Nd5 also has an optimised pole gap for superior linearity and crosstalk characteristics. It is said to be created with miniaturised parallel coils wound in-house, utilising 38-micron wire with 1,275 turns. The apparent result is a low inductance, low impedance generator that promises a vastly improved high-frequency response and exceptional soundstage.

Requiring a 1.75g tracking pressure, the Nd5 aluminium cantilever has a precision "perfect elliptical nude diamond" stylus for "exceptional tracking accuracy" and, according to Rega, "extracts greater detail from the vinyl surface."

The Nd5 is easily identified from its smoked clear cover. Priced at £295, the Nd5 replaces the Exact in the Rega range and is available factory-fitted to the Planar 3 or Planar 6 models at a discounted rate.

The Rega Nd5 fitted to Planar 3 has a UK SSP of £895, while fitted to Planar 6 has an SSP of £1,450. Both options are available from July.
