Rega's Nd7 is the final piece in this handmade MM cartridge series, and the company says it has saved the best til last.

As with its more affordable stablemates, the Nd7 uses a Neodymium N55 magnet to track the cantilever's lateral and vertical movements. However, here it is tipped with a precision-fitted Fine Line nude diamond stylus — a stylus profile that, according to Rega, offers superior tracking accuracy and better detail extraction. The company must hold it in high regard as this is what is used on its Apheta 3 and Aphelion 2 moving coil carts.

Offering a quoted 5-6mV of nominal output and requiring 1.75g tracking force, we are told that each Nd7 is meticulously handmade and that the design uses a new, symmetrical generator geometry. This design feature is crucial as it ensures accurate channel balance, a key factor in delivering a balanced and immersive audio experience. The Nd7 also has an optimised pole gap for superior linearity and crosstalk characteristics.

This new cartridge is created with miniaturised parallel coils wound in-house, utilising 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns. This design produces a low-inductance, low-impedance generator. The benefit of this is that it promises a vastly improved high-frequency response and a notably wider sound stage, enhancing the overall listening experience.

The Rega Nd7 has a UK SSP of £450 and is available now. You can also opt to have it fitted to a Planar 6 (£1,575) or a Planar 8 (£2,230).
