Magnetar Debuts MKII Series Media Players at CEDIA 2025

Magnetar has launched the UDP900MKII and UDP800MKII, the next chapter in its reference-grade media player line-up.

Announced at CEDIA Expo 2025 in Denver, the MKII Series significantly upgrades the brand’s award-winning universal disc players, engineered for enthusiasts who demand uncompromising playback quality.
Building on the strong foundations of the UDP900 and UDP800 platforms, the new models introduce video and audio processing refinements, alongside improved system integration and build quality. Magnetar says these enhancements were developed in direct response to dealer and customer feedback.

The UDP900MKII and UDP800MKII support virtually every format—4K UHD, Blu-ray, SACD, stored or networked media—delivering reference-level video processing and elite audio fidelity. A refreshed Magnetar video engine optimises colour reproduction, contrast, brightness and noise reduction, with improved upscaling promising one of the cleanest presentations in the category. Audio upgrades across the range further reduce distortion and improve signal purity for high-resolution playback.
Connectivity has also been strengthened. Redesigned USB 3.0 ports with isolated power supplies and dedicated hub chips promise more reliable compatibility with external devices. Meanwhile, a new sound-dampened optical drive ensures quieter, more accurate disc reads, housed in a reinforced aluminium chassis with dual-layer shielding to combat EMI. Internal wiring has also been upgraded to high-purity copper with premium JST/Amphenol PCB connectors.

Rob Jones, President of Magnetar North America, commented on the new release:
With the new MKII Series, we’ve raised the standard for universal media playback while honouring the passion of integrators and enthusiasts who continue to value physical and high-resolution media. These players bring unmatched performance, reliability, and integration flexibility, reaffirming Magnetar’s role as the go-to choice for premium home theatre systems.
At the top of the new range sits the UDP900MKII, which employs dual ESS 9038 PRO DACs—regarded among the industry’s finest—and TMDS retiming on the dedicated HDMI audio port to virtually eliminate jitter. USB playback via an advanced XMOS platform supports up to PCM 768 and DSD 512, catering for even the most demanding digital libraries. Networking has also been expanded, with Roon Ready certification on the roadmap to meet the expectations of high-end system integration. The EISA Awards have already recognised the UDP900MKII as the best home theatre disc player for 2025–26.
The UDP800MKII updates Magnetar’s more accessible model with meaningful refinements for cinephiles. Its re-engineered 2.0 audio stage uses seven OPA1602 op-amps for low-noise, high-precision sound. HDMI jitter correction, enhanced EMI shielding, and a sound-dampened chassis improve both sonic accuracy and mechanical quietness. Copper wiring and upgraded disc mechanics provide stability and durability, while Roon Ready support ensures network integration is on par with higher-end offerings.

The Magnetar UDP900MKII will be priced at US$3,299.99, while the UDP800MKII will land at US$1,799.99 with addtiional regional pricing to be confirmed shortly. Both models are slated to ship in Q4 2025 through Magnetar’s authorised dealer and distributor network.
