LUMIN U2X Advances Network Streaming with Flagship DNA

LUMIN has announced the launch of the U2X, its most advanced network transport to date.

LUMIN has announced the launch of the U2X, its most advanced network transport to date. Blending flagship technologies from the revered X1 model with the platform of the widely respected U1X, the new U2X aims to redefine digital audio streaming for serious hi-fi enthusiasts. We were fortunate to see the U2X first-hand at this year’s High End Munich, where its elegant design and seamless functionality left a strong impression, particularly for a product in the often understated network transport category.

Engineered to act as the digital heart of a high-performance system, the U2X introduces several firsts for LUMIN. Central to its performance is an all-new, high-speed System-on-Chip (SoC) processor developed specifically for audio streaming applications. This new SoC delivers significantly greater processing power than previous iterations, enabling real-time handling of high-resolution formats, improved upsampling algorithms, and even more accurate signal delivery.

Playback support is extensive, with native resolution handling for PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD up to DSD512. File formats supported include FLAC, WAV, AIFF, MQA, MP3, and more—streamed over the network via DLNA/UPnP, or accessed through supported streaming services.

Connectivity is equally comprehensive. Outputs include USB (now featuring a fully isolated port), SPDIF, AES/EBU, and TOSLINK, providing flexibility across various DACs and system configurations. LUMIN has also included a high-precision 10MHz internal crystal clock. For those running external master clocks or highly synchronised digital systems, the U2X can operate as either a master or slave clock via 10MHz input and output support—a feature not commonly found at this level.

Another trick up its sleeve is the return of LUMIN’s low-noise external power supply, borrowed directly from the flagship X1. This separates noisy digital processing from sensitive analogue components in the system chain, while helping to maintain a cleaner signal path. Additionally, the U2X supports optical networking, which allows for complete galvanic isolation from the leading network—an increasingly popular option for audiophiles concerned with minimising electrical noise.

As expected from LUMIN, control is intuitive and refined. The U2X integrates seamlessly with the brand’s mobile app (iOS and Android), and is entirely Roon Ready and Audirvana certified. Streaming options include Spotify Connect, TIDAL (including TIDAL Connect), Qobuz, Qobuz Connect, KKBOX, TuneIn internet radio, and Apple AirPlay.

The LUMIN U2X network transport will be available from August 2025, priced at US$9,990 | £8,995 | €10,990 | AU$18,200
