Linn Evolves the Klimax LP12 with Fresh Radikal and Keel SE Upgrades

The Klimax Radikal external power supply and Keel SE sub-chassis are designed to deliver further refinements for existing owners seeking to enhance performance.

The Scottish manufacturer’s LP12 remains one of the longest-running and most upgradeable turntables in production, with Linn’s philosophy favouring meaningful evolution over wholesale redesign. The new Klimax Radikal replaces the Radikal Machined, first released in 2018, while the Keel SE succeeds the original Keel sub-chassis introduced in 2006.

The new Radikal contains Linn’s latest Utopik power supply, which now provides separate, isolated voltage rails for the motor and phono stage. Each operates independently to achieve greater consistency and reduced interference, thereby improving timing stability and overall noise performance. The refreshed chassis has also been reworked for better electrical and mechanical isolation.

Machined from three solid aluminium sections and mounted on high-mass stainless-steel feet with rubber-ring inserts, the design incorporates an internal aluminium compartment that shields the Utopik module from the main circuit board.

The Keel SE represents a further refinement of Linn’s one-piece sub-chassis and tonearm mounting assembly. Developed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), it’s said to be around 300 per cent stiffer than the previous design, with improved mass balance, lower inertia, and greater acoustic isolation. 

As with previous LP12 updates, the intention is not to reinvent the turntable, but to offer incremental, measurable improvements for owners already operating at Linn’s highest level. For those invested in the Klimax LP12 ecosystem, both upgrades extend the platform’s long-standing modularity and performance potential.

Both products are expected to be available toward the end of October.
