Built on Grado’s closed-back Signature S550 platform, the unique pair retains the headphone’s core 50mm driver architecture and tuning, but reimagines the exterior as a functional art piece.
For those familiar with the S550, the appeal goes beyond its appearance. At its core is Grado’s 50mm dynamic driver, tuned to work with the headphone’s wooden enclosure rather than relying on a completely new driver design. The result is a more relaxed, balanced presentation that still retains the speed and detail the brand is known for, a sound that leans towards long-session listening rather than outright analysis.

The cups have been finished in a bold, hand-painted design that draws on the colourful puzzle imagery long associated with autism awareness, making this as much a collectable object as it is a serious listening tool. Importantly, the headphone remains fully functional, rather than a static display piece.
The artwork itself also carries a more personal connection. The hand-painted design was created by Juliana, who has been part of the Eden II community for more than two decades, working alongside support staff as part of the project. Her contribution turns the headphone into something more than a one-off finish, it becomes a direct expression of the community the auction is designed to support.

The auction is being hosted directly by Eden II, a New York-based organisation providing education, residential and support services for autistic children and adults. Grado says the initiative builds on a relationship with the charity that spans nearly three decades, during which the Brooklyn manufacturer has supported a range of fundraising efforts.
Bidding is open now via Eden II’s website and will run through to April 30, with the highest bidder receiving the one-off headphone. As expected, 100 percent of proceeds will go directly to the organisation. It offers collectors a genuinely unique take on an established platform, while also creating a direct pathway for the audio community to contribute to a specialist support service.

With bidding open through the end of April, there is a short window for those interested to take part and, perhaps more importantly, to support the work of Eden II Programs in the process.
