Focal Provides The 2023 DS 9’s Audio Experience

Offered as standard on the Opéra and Esprit de Voyage 2023 DS 9 models, we're told that Focal has worked closely with the DS Automobiles team to determine the spaces for the speaker drivers so that every passenger experiences incredible sound immersion.

The system's 14 speaker drivers benefit from lightweight, rigid Polyglass cones and Focal's aluminium inverted dome technology. Finally, the Power Flower magnet promises perfect control of the subwoofer's movements.

Focal tells us that during the fine-tuning stage, the speaker drivers are phase-aligned to reach the listener simultaneously. Finally, the 690 Watt, 16-way amplification uses Class D boost technology, with a strong power/consumption efficiency, low distortion and high energy control.

Two two-way speaker drivers are positioned in the front doors alongside a dashboard-mounted central channel to produce a three-dimensional sound image. In the rear, two two-way speaker drivers are housed in the doors, with two surround speakers on the parcel shelf for "cinema-like immersion".

The subwoofer uses three of the 16 amplifier channels, and Focal describes it as "extremely powerful and assertive". Two listening modes are offered: "All-Passengers", an optimised stereo mode for each passenger, and "Front Optimized", a unique experience that's said to augment the stereo stage, making it wider and deeper for the front seats.

The Focal Electra system works in concert with the new DS IRIS multimedia system.

DS 9 is a car offering the height of luxury. The range has evolved with the creation of a third level of Opera trim and the adoption of the Esprit de Voyage collection. High-end materials, including Nappa leather, Alcantara trim, etc., are combined with Focal sound. The Esprit de Voyage collection features acoustic glazing, heat-sealed casings to eliminate vibrations, and design-led Focal Electra grilles. The press release states: "Passengers are at the heart of the sound, a precision and balanced acoustic combining a controlled and dynamic sub-bass with a rich, finesse-laden treble."
