ELAC Concentro M 807 4-Way Floorstander For Discerning Listeners

ELAC states its CONCENTRO M 807 combines "state-of-the-art acoustic innovation with sculptural elegance."

ELAC tells us that the second-generation Concentro M 807 fuses "cutting-edge technology with an iconic aesthetic," and they really do cut an arresting figure, as we found out at High End Munich where we snapped these pictures - not to mention they also command a not inconsequential ticket price.

This "bold statement in audiophile precision and design," as the German company calls it, has been created in part to celebrate ELAC's 99th anniversary, just as the original iteration marked the company's 90th.

Each 62 kg, 1340x461x595mm [HxWxD] four-way tower is fitted with the brand's centrally-mounted JET 6c tweeter, chosen for its "lightning-fast response and wide dynamic range", promising minimal distortion and significant headroom for those soaring highs.

The Jet 6c tweeter sits in the centre of ELAC's VXe Technology, which the manufacturer states is "a revolutionary approach to sound tuning." This system utilises a six 40mm high-midrange driver circular array (VXe 6) for mid-band reproduction.

Moreover, this unique coaxial array offers a customisable soundstage - an innovation that allows you to fine-tune the balance between direct and diffuse sound via a simple rear-panel switch.

Assisting that array are dual 11.5cm low-midrange units and, taking care of the other end of the frequency band, is a pair of side-mounted 25cm aluminium sandwich woofers. ELAC says these have been carefully positioned for "distortion-free bass reproduction and "an authoritative yet controlled low-frequency performance".

ELAC says the Concentro M 807 has a 24-50,000 Hz frequency range (EC 268-5), 88 dB / 2.83 V/m sensitivity, and 4 Ω nominal impedance. Peak power handling is listed as 400 W, with 300 W being its nominal range. ELAC recommends an amplifier capable of 80 - 600 W/Channel.

Naturally, these very clever drivers need a crossover network capable of seamlessly dishing out the duties at 150, 650, and 2,650 Hz. Enter ELAC's newly engineered crossover network, which is constructed using premium components such as film capacitors and metal oxide (MOX) resistors. The brand says this new crossover "ensures optimal phase and level integration" whilst guaranteeing "seamless frequency transitions and maximum fidelity."

The curvy cabinets feature non-parallel surfaces and six-axis milled reinforcements to reduce unwanted sonic resonances and mitigate internal standing waves, ensuring the speakers' sound remains clean, pure and uncoloured. Additionally, we're told the unique shape and design assures immersive imaging, depth, and pinpoint accuracy, "making every listening experience truly lifelike."

The ELAC Concentro M 807 are available now in either a black or a white finish, priced at £37,000 / €44,000 / US$45,000 per pair.
