Edinburgh Hi-AV Show: Ultrafide Audio Launches More Accessible SP500 Amplifier

Ultrafide Audio is taking its pro sound, homebound revolution one step further with its SP500 stereo power amplifier, officially launching at 2025’s Edinburgh Hi-AV Show.
The SP500 is a more compact, more affordable addition to Ultrafide’s range, offering the same power output (250W @ 8 ohms/500W @ 4 ohms) and the promise of “warm sonic purity and music-first ‘power with emotion’ engineering excellence.” Its distinct value lies in delivering this performance in a sleeker, more space-efficient form without compromise.
The SP500 features Ultrafide’s Ultra Sigma output topology, the company’s premium in-house design first introduced in the U500DC. According to the British brand, Ultra Sigma offers notable clarity and dynamics, delivering audio performance that they claim rivals that of high-end competitors.
Its compact straight-edge casework, as well as inspiring its squaredPower nomlicature, means the SP500 seamlessly integrates with other hi-fi components and mixed systems, and is also perfectly suited to studio, reference, and residential applications, thanks to its rack-mountability. The minimalist casework no doubt also helps keep the pricing down.
We’re told that DC coupling input to output ensures clean and accurate signal transmission, resulting in an incredibly transparent, but musically engaging experience.
The SP500 also offers flexible configuration with RCA and XLR inputs, XLR passive link outputs, and both binding post and speakON outputs, the latter a definite hint at the company’s pro-audio roots.
Mark Bailey, product specialist at Ultrafide Audio and MC2, explained that the SP500 retains everything loved about the U500DC Ultra Sigma amplifier, but introduces a more minimal casing based on customer feedback. He highlighted the added rack-mount capability and revised I/O connections, making the unit even more flexible for CI, studio, cinema, and traditional Hi-Fi use. Bailey also noted that the SP500's internals are nearly identical to those of the U500DC, with only subtle changes to the input/output circuitry, ensuring equally breathtaking performance.

Alongside the SP500, Ultrafide will be setting up with Kudos 505 speakers at the Edinburgh HI-AV Show, forming a compact yet formidable, high-quality setup for visitors to the room to enjoy.
The Ultrafide Audio SP500 stereo power amplifier will retail for £3,990.
The Edinburgh Hi-AV Show 2025 runs through the weekend of November 8 & 9, and tickets are available now.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
