Diapason Didascalìa Bridges Heritage and Harmony in Warsaw Premiere

Italian loudspeaker specialist Diapason unveiled its latest creation, the Didascalìa, at the Audio Video Show in Warsaw over the weekend. This new two-way reference model pays homage to the brand’s artisanal roots while showing a clear step forward in its design philosophy.

Rather than reinventing for the sake of it, the Didascalìa builds on what founder Alessandro Schiavi and designer Paolo Tezzon describe as the “Italian school of electroacoustic design.”

Even its name tells part of the story. Derived from ancient Greek, Didascalìa means “teaching” or “knowledge” — a nod to the designers’ belief in passing on the traditions that have shaped Italian loudspeaker craftsmanship.

“Didascalìa is a cultural operation,” Tezzon says. “It’s about ensuring knowledge is passed on, not lost.”

The loudspeaker’s design is unmistakably Italian — elegant and sculptural, yet with every curve serving a purpose. Solid walnut or lacquered tulipwood panels combine with CNC-machined aluminium “damp shelves” that strengthen the structure while reducing vibration. Inside, a layered mix of HDF and Baltic birch creates a resonance-free cabinet, while a leather-clad baffle aligns the tweeter and mid-woofer for precise time coherence.

Diapason’s traditional two-way layout remains at the heart of the design, but the Didascalìa goes further than most. The cabinet houses twin side-mounted passive radiators — what Diapason calls “active drone units” — each fitted with an electromagnetic braking system that lets users fine-tune low-frequency damping via a rear control. This clever solution extends bass response well below 40 Hz while maintaining the speed and purity two-way designs are known for.

Both drivers are Diapason’s own designs, developed with Scan-Speak. The 29 mm silk dome tweeter features a neodymium magnet system and a non-resonant aluminium rear chamber, providing refined and natural treble. The 180 mm mid-woofer, meanwhile, features a hand-coated paper-nylon cone and “AirCirc” magnet system for speed and transparency. The crossover is hand-wired point to point and mounted in its own isolated chamber, using Mundorf and Jantzen components to ensure clean signal flow and low interference.

Early impressions from the Warsaw show suggest the Didascalìa captures Diapason’s long-held focus on musical emotion as much as precision. Listeners noted an easy sense of scale and flow, with bass that was both taut and expressive — qualities perhaps informed by Tezzon’s background as a bass player.

Aesthetically, the Didascalìa continues Diapason’s reputation for sculptural craftsmanship. Each cabinet wing is formed from eight individually seasoned walnut slats, vacuum-roasted to stabilise the grain, and hand-finished in natural water-based lacquer. Even the spikes employ elastomer-based decoupling for improved isolation. The result is a design that looks as meticulous as it sounds.

The Didascalìa is rated from 25 Hz to 30 kHz, with a sensitivity of 90 dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. It’s designed to work comfortably with amplifiers ranging from 50 to 250 watts, offering ample headroom without strain. While final pricing and availability haven’t been announced, the technical performance clearly puts it in high-end territory.

Ultimately, Diapason’s latest creation aims to strike a balance between precision and emotion — translating craftsmanship into musical truth.

If the Warsaw debut is any indication, the Didascalìa appears poised to become one of the most distinctive examples of modern Italian loudspeaker design: elegant, technically assured, and crafted with the conviction that music should not only impress but also move.

We don’t yet have official pricing for the new release, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more information.
