Coppice Audio’s new Modular BG open-baffle loudspeakers launch at Cranage

Coppice Audio, introduced to us back in 2021, is preparing to unveil the Modular BG, the British manufacturer’s first open-baffle loudspeaker system, designed for immersive, full-range performance in a flexible, affordable format—while maintaining musical integrity.

Impressing us at shows such as the UK Audio Show in 2023 with its BG1, Coppice Audio's new Modular BG boasts an open-baffle midrange section, available with either Lowther’s CM45CP or PM65CP drivers. This setup delivers immediacy, nuance, and tonal purity unique to open-baffle designs.

The fully modular system starts with a single bass module and can expand to two for enhanced low-frequency performance. Each bass unit has two interchangeable ports—one tuned to 30Hz, the other to 27Hz—for tailored response.

Modular BG is touted as Coppice’s most accessible high-end model yet, combining plywood cabinets with solid-wood baffles for quality without compromising performance or craftsmanship.

The company told StereoNET:

This speaker represents a big step forward for us. Our first open-baffle design has been in development for years. It captures everything we value: clarity, natural tone, and emotional engagement. Now, it comes in a system that adapts to your space and evolves with your system.

The Modular BG will make its public debut at the North West Audio Show on June 21–22, in conjunction with the unveiling of the company’s new website.

The Coppice Audio Modular BG is available now, priced from £6,653.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
