CoLinear Acoustics Launches with the DSP-8C Founders’ Edition

CoLinear Acoustics launches with its DSP-8C, promising reference-grade DAC performance with unprecedented processing power.
The DSP-8C Founders' Edition is the inaugural product from the new British hi-fi company, CoLineaer, which is said to focus on "high-end, yet affordable, digital audio solutions pioneering the latest innovations and technologies."

Designed and made in the UK, the DSP-8C is engineered with precision and versatility in mind. Described as a "state-of-the-art 8-channel digital signal processor/pre-amplifier", the new brand states the DSP-8C is set to "redefine the DSP demands of both domestic and professional environments," no less.
At the heart of the 110x330x180mm [HxWxD] DSP-8C is a 1GHz processor incorporating highly optimised IIR and FIR accelerators, offering unrivalled DSP performance. With the availability of over 49,000 FIR taps, 348 IIR filters and a multitude of DSP features, the DSP-8C can implement advanced corrections and filters at sampling rates of up to 192kHz.

Additionally, we're told that multi-way active crossovers, speaker/driver correction, and advanced room correction in both the frequency and time domains are made simple with the intuitive DSPconfig cross-platform control software that supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.
For digital-to-analogue conversion duties, the DSP-8C utilises an eight-channel ES9039SPRO DAC and an optimised OPA1612-based output stage. CoLinear states that the result is an unweighted THD+N as low as -127 dB, while the dynamic range is greater than 130 dB.

The CoLinear DSP-8C back panel features 8 x RCA (single-ended) and 8 x XLR (balanced) analogue outputs. Digital inputs include a USB Audio (UAC2) port, supporting up to 24-bit/192kHz, as well as S/PDIF Coaxial and S/PDIF Optical ports, all supporting up to 24-bit/192kHz. Moreover, each output channel can be independently set to single-ended or true balanced mode.
The DSP-8C also supports selectable, calibrated analogue output voltages, ensuring it integrates seamlessly into any setup. Also helpfully bundled with the DSP-8C is an infrared remote control, a 22.5W universal AC adapter, and a 1.5m USB-A to USB-B cable.

The CoLinear DSP-8C is available from 6 August, with the Founders' Edition priced at a limited-time offer of £995; after this, it will cost £1,195.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
