AVID admits that it would be the first to suffix the announcement of its Nexus and Altus tonearms with "finally". However, this doesn't mean that the Cambridgeshire-based company is any less excited about it, as these tonearms enable AVID to offer complete turntable solutions at multiple price points to meet the growing demand for vinyl reproduction.

AVID NEXUS

Nexus is AVID HiFi's flagship tonearm, featuring a 9-inch bespoke "hyper-strong" titanium arm tube. This rigid tube, we are told, is mated to a Rigid Architecture Bearing with parts manufactured to micron tolerances. Additionally, the company's Progressive Bias Compensation Mechanism is onboard, offering a linear offset to counteract increasing centripetal forces.

The Nexus spec sheet tells us that it has an effective mass of 19g, which puts it at medium, and a 233mm effective length with a 17mm overhang and 23-degree offset angle.

AVID ALTUS

Meanwhile, Altus represents the first rung on the AVID tonearm ladder and offers a 9-inch thick-walled aluminium tube and boats "a high self-damping factor".

AVID tells us that it also benefits from its stablemate by sharing the same Rigid Architecture Bearing and Progressive Bias Compensation Mechanism.

The Altus has a 233mm effective length, 17mm overhang, and 18g effective mass. The offset angle for the Altus is also 23-degrees.

Both tonearms are fully designed, precision-manufactured, and hand-assembled by AVID at their factory in Huntingdon, England.

The new AVID HiFi tonearms are available now, with the Nexus priced at £4,500 and Altus at £1,500. Both prices are VAT inclusive.
