Dela S1 ... is this the current King of switches?

Featured Replies

I have very much been looking forward to receiving and trying out the flagship Dela S1 (formerly Melco) ethernet switch for quite some time since hearing one in another system a little while ago and finally I received one yesterday and yes its seriously impressive.

I am usually one who doesn't place much stock in reviews but in this case everything I have ever read about the S1 is correct. While so far I have only tried it in a mid level system in the front room I can't wait to try it in the main room with the big Marten Mingus Septet Statements and the other high end Antipodes, Aries Cerat and Linn components, that will be the true measure of what it adds to a higher end system I reckon.

Having said that so far no switch I have ever had the pleasure of introducing in to a system has improved SQ like this bit of gear and apparently it still has a few tricks up its sleeve that hopefully I'll get a chance to hear next week when I receive a Melco C1 ethernet cable, can't wait!

I have to add that the S1 is also the most expensive by far switch, at over $18k rrp, I have had the opportunity to have in one of my systems, so its only reasonable to expect that it should be that good. Lets see how it goes in the main room soon.

Anyway if you are local to the Gold Coast and would like to hear how good the S1 is give me a call and arrange a private listening session. Happy for you to bring your existing switch to compare it with if you like.

... cheers Terry

Green light indicates that port 11 is set at 100mpbs in, if it was Blue then its 1 gig, Orange, which port 7 is set on is 10mpbs out and that so far with the music I have been listening to (mainly Jazz, Vocals etc) is what I am really liking.

The S1 is no light weight at over 14kg.
