Classifieds: Secure Ads will be compulsory from Jan 1st 2026

For quite some time now we have offered the ability to add 2FA/MFA to your account for an additional layer of security. You are likely becoming more familiar with this concept as more and more transactional type websites require you to submit a code that was either texted to you, or retrieved from an app such as Authenticator.

We have made the voluntary decision to offer this security here at StereoNET, which has proven reliable and effective to prevent account theft or misuse. Note, this does come at cost, as every single authentication costs us money. However, as many of you know I take security very seriously and for me, this is a no-brainer to protect our community.

You will have already noticed some Ads show a small shield icon and say Secure Ad. After a successful trial, we will be making 2FA (Secure Ads) mandatory in order to place an Ad from Jan 1st 2026. From this date, your member account will need to have Two Factor Authentication enabled.

This is at no cost to you. We do not store or have access to your mobile phone numbers. We utilise the global authentication service known as Twilio Verify. If you have received a six digit code via text message to login to another website, it's highly likely they were using the same platform.

Once enabled, not only will you need to authenticate when you place an ad/repost, other areas of the website (such as making username or password changes) will also require authentication.

Thanks all. I continue to try our best and ensure this is the safest place to transact for hi-fi, headphones etc, on the internet. And in an age where everyone is out to scam you, we've been doing a damn good job so far.

You should look to enable 2FA apps in twillo also. Many of us these days have authenticator apps already on our phones and it will save you the SMS fee for anyone that uses that method.

While I agree with you, it's not an option to have more than one type of authentication.
When we explored this in the early days many members were opposed to having to install an app on their device.

SMS is the best compromise.

Fair enough 👍
