I'm currently looking at streamers around this price point, but the fact that it's app doesn't work with android rules it out for me, as does the lack of a wifi connection . I disagree that this product is largely future proofed with excellent connectivity - it's a non- starter for me.

Agreed. Really not sure why a manufacturer would not cater for the other big one today.

From experience, it's easier to get Android Play Store approval than it is Apple App Store.

 

In fairness, this was referenced and pointed out both within the review and the conclusion.

I hear you, not owning any Apple products.  Same thing with a friend when I suggested auditioning an Altair.  However, it sounded so good that he bought an entry iPad as well. And, in the process, got rid of years of frustration of stitching a streamer, DAC and cable together.

Android access is a moot point when using Roon, most users at this end of the market would be Roon users. 

Another alternative on Android would be Bubble PnP.
