wizardofoz Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 I am looking at doing up some Roon ROCK https://kb.roonlabs.com/ROCK:_Getting_Started setups and wonder how many would be interested (those who are not comfortable with PC building in particular) to see if there is some interest in something like an MO but with some component of cost for assembly sourcing and setup. Let me know if you are interested.
Audio Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 I got a boot-up issue with my Intel NUC 7i7BHN and could not install the image yet....try trying. (Audio)
wizardofoz Posted July 12, 2017 Author Posted July 12, 2017 Bios update is required and can be a bit temperamental to get done
ootg Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 I am interested in doing my own build too! Perhaps we should share experiences on each of our builds.
Audio Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 OK, found out what wrong with my NUC 7i7BHN, the EFI Shell option was ticked in the BIOS. Unchecked it. Boot up with the USB stick and whala.....tell Roon where to setup the Roon server. The installation took seconds!!! And now Roon is ready to use. I rush to the sound room and wow...fast, very detailed...very good, just as good as my 8-core Ryzen server running Roon. This is highly recommended. Now I need to find a way to load up my music into my 1TB SSD....I will need to get the 4TB SSD soon. (Audio)
wizardofoz Posted July 12, 2017 Author Posted July 12, 2017 Bro no need SSD for music...waste your money...speed of even 5400 RPM drive more than can be saturated with even DSD512 multiple streams
SteinigerGE Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Wiz, I would be interested in looking into an MO. I was going to set up a Hifiberry to stream to my Simaudio DAC when I return from the U.S. next week, but was also considering a Roon Rock, so if there is any more interest, let me know!
wizardofoz Posted July 14, 2017 Author Posted July 14, 2017 I’m also happy to custom builds to your needs...just p.m. me
kiat1624705752 Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Is there a way to store store our music files inside the Roon ROCK installation? based on the documentation provided, I'm seeing only 2 options 1) USB disk 2) SMB.
wizardofoz Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 yes thats correct... but if you use the SMB option to transfer it needs to be in the storage folder that will only be there when you have a USB attached or optionally have installed a 2nd drive in the system (NUC) and when you do this way the ROCK will format the drive so you will need to make sure the internal drive option has no data on it or it will be gone. The other option in NAS which by definition is not connected directly to the NUC...this is how I use it. But I could if I wanted to add a drive internally...but my library is too big for that. https://kb.roonlabs.com/ROCK:_Storage_Basics Roon version 1.4 is also just released in case you missed it.

Has been running on my Synology 1515+ for a while. Unfortunately it just died on me :( Have just RMA it back and will only getting a replacement next year. This trigger me to have another standby music repository. Can't afford to lost my entire music collection. So for the time being, I can't tried Roon 1.4. Oz any recommended setup to advise?
wizardofoz Posted December 19, 2017 Author Posted December 19, 2017 Assuming you have your music backed up on a usb drive use that on the rock
