I am almost certain on scrapping my car.

I know for a fact that there are a few scrap yard in Singapore that are authorized for this by the LTA, and the scrap yard will salvage any parts to be sold off, for their income, also to recycle.

For whatever reasons, I was told the all monies from the sale of all the parts will not go back to car owners.

Is there anything I can do or some car workshop who would do this ? to salvage some parts to get some money? Maybe I can fund the upgrading of my entry level CDP or try out some better cables.

For example, the 4 Michelin tyres, timing belt, HD lower arm/ball joints etc were brand new since May 2015 with only a few hundred km since then.

The car in now immobile and is a Volvo XC90.

Thanks for any input.

The xc90 is a popular model why not strip the whole car yourself take off all the electronics.

Headlights and tails, ecu, cylinder head, turbo but not the engine block. Take All the body panels and leave in your houses. I am pretty sure the Malaysians will want it advertise in the Volvo forum.

We cleared a few of my friends car this way. No one wanted a Saab 9-5 that was the best way out. Got back $1000+

The dealer would give you $100.

Once all is out have it towed to an lta approved scrapped yard they will pay $20 for the metal.

You need to have your title deed in your hands first no outstanding bank loan.

I don't take loans on my car so it was pretty straight forward.

You are allowed to take everything out less the engine block and chassis component.

you can try asking car workshops who can help you to dekit your after market parts and restore stock parts before you scrap.

For audio parts, car audio workshop should be able to help with incurring labour and used stock part fees. Your after market parts will yield more if you sell them yourself or you can try to trade in to the workshop.

For mechanical parts, it will be quite difficult to swap your new parts to older used parts as yours have been used but they are relatively new in your view. No harm asking those workshops which handle volvos.

Thanks Peter Seow and Kinger.

The car is at my car park and cannot be driven because gearbox is faulty. I've recently spent a tidy sum in the attempt to fix it but the workshop could not live up to their promise, and now the gearbox problem surface. This explain some relatively new parts.

I would require a workshop to dismental the parts, and then store them for me, and try to sell them. I've not made many enquiries, but the 2 that I've enquired so far had turned me flat down and said no workshop would do it because it is too time consuming and their cut would not be much for the effort.

I have another workshop in mind to inquire, but if you know of any that do this, please drop me a name and contact.

Hullo bro

Try advert your Michelins in MyCarForum or HWZ ... Should hv no problems dekit that

Next try Volvo forums advert your new refurbished parts to swop and state your price buyer pays for labour at workshop to be mutually agreed

Once all done deregister your ride online @ onemotoring and have it towed to say Propel and voila! It's time to look for a new ride

Or u can try call Propel and see what they can offer u

Cheers

I don't think you can strip everything out and go to scrap here.

They need the car to be in "complete" conditions, means 4 wheels have to be there, head light, car seat and etc etc. That's why you would get back your PARF value or OMV from LTA after the scarp yard confirmed with LTA that they indeed received your car in one piece.

Normally, a third party would also able to take in your car if your car are in good conditions or popular model. So you could get extra a part from the PARF/OMV value.

Since you mentioned it's non operational now, can't drive. You would probably only able to get back your paper value or worse is you might need to pay for the tow truck to tow to the scrap yard.

** "complete" = all wheels to be there but it can be all 4 wheels are spares wheels. LOL The rest you can go imagine.

Bro I offer by pm to take some parts from you...but you don't reply...please do

BMW is champion about 5 year need to change a new one. VW so far no issue (touch wood).

Recon is about $5K plus labour? BMW charge $8K

Thank you all fellas.

Propel is the name I was trying to recall, it is also near one of the authorized scrap yard.

Wiz, I've whatsapp you some details.

It is now a balance between selling some parts, likely only few, and scraping it ASAP

The gear box is reliable I think, considering my relatively high mileage as this is the first alert after 230,000 km. As this is only an alert that came on, I still do not know for sure what is really wrong with it.

For the benefit of all, do not swift your gear too quickly, or impatiently, and do not ever step on the accelerator before the gear is in place. And most cars need a second or two for the gear to move in place, after you swift the gear. What you see at the F1 races, cost thousands of $ to replace after one race .

The other thing to note is, when dealing with your authorized dealer on warranty, repairs, etc. Good to get their words in black and white.

Dear Sir,

Re: Re: Detail step by step to scrap a vehicle before its expiry of COE

FEEDBACK NUMBER: 20160217-0974

We refer to your email of 17 February 2016.

We only require the full chassis frame and full engine block to be properly disposed of. You can remove any accessories or part that does not belong to the integral part of the chassis frame or engine block.

Please note that the LTA-appointed scrapyard may impose a service fee to scrap the bare chassis and engine block. Please liaise with them for more information.

We thank you for writing in."

Sorry I don't understand the speed of shifting the gear when yours is auto tranny....

I supposed the shifting is automatic unless you play alot with pedal shift?

Like shifting from D to R straight and gassing it instantly. Paddle shift is fine.

Used to take back PARF and you can sell off quickly if you price a little bit over it if the repair is not too costly to get it moving.

yup thats what I am trying to do.

You're welcome bro. Something new for me as well.

even when the gear is already automatically shifted and in place, most would step on the accelerator to get the car to move, either forward or in reverse. I've heard from more than a few mechanics,  good to wait for a second, or two, before stepping on the accelerator.

This not only allows the gear to be in place, it also allows all parts connected to the gear mechanism to be ready.

Export is an option. What I've found out is, it should normally get another few thousands if there is a demand.

Utter rubbish on bmw gearbox needing replacement every five years. Most stupid stuff I heard...

I have a few bmw they don't blow up. My 750 v12 which almost 20 years old is running on the original gearbox. And 760 v12 which 10 years has been replaced.

As Long as you replace the fluids regularly like every 25,000 km the gearbox will last problems is mechanics don't tell you and agent does not replace the fluid. Fluids cost $300+ for 11l in a v12

Only the Saab and Volvo and bit fragile as its made by aisin not rated for so much torque.

But it not that expensive to fix. Getting a used one from Malaysia is cheapest way out. Frankly most mechanics here can't repair it as the gearbox is rather complicated and tight fitting.

I think it's rm4500 for a used on.

Only a few ignorant candles sticker readers who fail to get the fundamentals correct would deem not everything can be removed besides the chassis and engine block. Always get the facts right first.
