AVI is as close to a home environment as u can get, they have quite a number of rooms varying in sizes, even living room or loft!

JaapDeventer Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Has anyone compared the sound of the Cenya with the Rebel 3? I have both. The Cenya's have come from Finland last januari. To my surprise they sound different a lot. Greetings, Jaap
noblewolf Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 The 100votes-to-SAMify is not carved in stone.. I saw a lot of speakers with 200 over votes for quite a while now.. Still no SAM.. Back in the days, I rigged 100 over votes across the seven kingdoms.. My GP still no SAM until now..

This is not surprising as speakers of the same brand can sound very different from various models. That is why always audition and not have a preconceived "house sound". :)
JaapDeventer Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 The Cenya's have more bass as can be expected. However the mid-high are less prominend. The difference is such that I now use a digital EQ (Behringer DEQ2496) to emphasis the hights (+3dB between 1700 and 12000Hz).

An alternative to EQ would be cables...The Cenya Signature is a nice pair :)
JaapDeventer Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 What is a good amp for the Cenya's? I've got a Sonneteer Alabaster. Thought it would be the best match. Now I'm in doubt. They are 86dB 4ohm speakers. Maybe I need a bigger and/or brighter amp.
Guest mousike Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I have heard the Cenya in a lower wattage amp versus a 500 wattage like Bryston 4BSST2. The difference is quite apparent, control, bass, refinement, speed, and the list goes on. That's a pre/power set up where as Integrated you bound to have some trade off and there isn't many good muscle integrated out there that fits into integrated price point + high power + quality. So it's a fine balance...it all about management of expectations I think. All amps will drive the speakers adequately and you can be happy and need not compare. There is a thread here some where on all recent integrated amps and I am sure you will find some good options. Cheers!

Before i purchase my Serenade couple of years ago, i email Sami of Penaudio about driving the Serenade and Sara S. He specifically mentioned that he is using Sonneteer Alabaster and feel it is good enough to drive Serenade and Sara S in their 50m2 treated listening room. If the Alabaster is capable of driving both model of floorstander, i don't see how it have issue driving Cenya.

More watt doesn't mean better and it all depends on your application, of course the argument you can said is you can have more headroom BUT i feel most of the time this is true for floorstander speaker and some yao gui power hungry bookshelf. I went audit Franco Seblin Accordo and honestly it sound so horrible with that high powered Passlab. Likewise a close kaki use a pair of Coincident Frankenstein MK II for the same speaker and it is heavenly..... So i feel it depends more on synergy.
Guest mousike Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Exactly - Synergy and it has in spades. It depends on the sound you are looking for and like I said all will work. I also like to add - I have read and hear enough for myself to know that the "overkill" statement just isn't true. I have tested a number of SS and tube amplifiers of different class in my room and heard even more in other setups to refrain from such general statements. Again all amps will do the job but what kind of sound you desire would dictate the "perfect match". All amps have a character of their own and needs to be considered. Still the sensitivity of the speakers would be one key indicator to your choices. You can go against physics with a flea wattage amps and it will still drives but at peak dynamic load is an entire different story. Have fun shopping but do more research before you part your hard earned cash. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Interesting finding..... do you happened to own a pair of Cenya and test it in your room and concluded that it need power to work? I had a pair of Charisma non magnesium driver model 4ohm 87db and drive it with Krell Evo and it don't pair well. I then pair it with BAT tube amp and it more resolving/musical and even though it lack the dynamics of Krell. Also there are many those so call flea wattage amp that sound better than some high powered amp in the market, First watt SIT, Coincident Dynamo 34SE and etc. Getting off-track, if you are keen we can catch up offline over kopi to discuss more and learn from each other.
Guest mousike Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I don't own the Cenya but have heard it both in my room and in the showroom as well using different wattage of amps of different brands. There are trade offs either way we choose to go i.e. SS / Tube / Class A / Class AB / etc. I personally prefer the sound of SS Amps in Class AB couple with Class A or Hybrid tube Pre. I find this combination strike a fine balance in a number of areas I find important in conveying music. These differs from person to person so its very much a matter of taste too. I still think its critical to drive the speakers adequately or the speakers will not have sufficient control under dynamic swing particularly in complex piece of music. This I find is short changing the real potential of the speakers but its immaterial if all one listen to is soft vocals. Tubes would do very well in mid range...there are many amplifiers to choose from but pick one that provides you the combined (System with Speakers included + Amplifier) sound characteristics you desire. Don't go with brand or reviews or even what I wrote here. Always pair it and listen for yourself. Here is a long list of Integrated you can pick and choose from - http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=167573.0 Cheers!
JaapDeventer Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Thank you for all responses on my question on a fitting amp with my Cenya's. A second hand Rega Elex-R crossed my path. So I decided to give it a try. First impression is that it indeed has more hights. Listening and comparing with the Alabaster has just begon. I keep you posted. :D

My experience is that the Cenya do need quite abit of power to wake up and sing. The Sara S & its Signature version on the other hand sings beautifully with little power. Quite a few I know ended up with the Saras after looking at the overall value they get considering u need to spend more on the amp with the Cenya. Have not heard the combo but I believe the 4BSST2 would sound great for the Cenya Signature.
