U may want to check the firmware first before taking delivery.  :)

Checked wif KEC yesterday. Understand tat watever 875 (or all Onkyos) in Spore now will likely be without any firmware upgrade. In any case, still no news abt the firmware sending to SG yet.

Guys does your Onkyo 875 have hissing or interference sound when you use it as a pre/pro?

By pre, do u mean using Pre-Out Front L/R to, for eg., Int Amp? If so, I have not heard any noise, well at least from my sitting posn of 3m away.

How close for u to hear the noise? After boot up? Or during movie/CD play?

Bro is it the sound of silence  ???  maybe u have used too much of sound treatment stuff  ;D

Yup pre out front L & R only, sitting about 2.5m away. I get hissing and interference sound. Not cables issues though. Hope its not from my CDP.

Does the noise build up as u pump up the volume? The hissing noise is the same as the radio static noise? And tis noise juz 'pop-up' suddenly or since Day 1?

Ure worrying me  :o  I will fly back later after work to hear/chk mine  :-X

I didnt have this problem when i was connecting my speakers directly to the Onkyo. I dont think this problem is from my power, very likely the Onkyo or the CDP. I will isolate the problem to see if its my CDP or Onkyo.

this is probably a damn noob question. I just got the onkyo 605 and some speaker cables from KEC. And i got some banana plugs for the speaker cables.

What am i supposed to do to insert the banana plugs into the 605 terminals? Because they cant seem to fit when i try to plug them in directly.

Do i have to take out the terminals entirely  or what?

If it is like my Onkyo 875, there is a tiny plastic clip covering the banana plug terminal. I just got the helpful guys at KEC to pry them all out for me when I went to collect. They just used a small plier.

Just use a small screwdriver (like those u use to tighten spectacles) and pry out the black cap sitting at the end of each terminal. U can even recap them (althought a bit difficult unless u have small and steady fingers) if u do not want to use banana plugs.

so mah fun, i just removed my banana plugs at one end, and used the old speaker cable method.

i used the bananaplugs for the speaker end into my KEF iq9s

sounds fantastic

I tried calibrating my speaker set up last nite. How come my center speaker, the noise that comes out from it is so soft? I had to give it a +10 to make it the same noise level as the left and right floorstanders

Well the interference is confirm coming from the Onkyo 875. Somehow I expected this as an AVR has so many components in a box which iam not suprise about the noise.

So the noise is heard after 875 is powered up and varies with the volume level? Or during play?

My 875 is also 'congested' with LaserDisc player, DVD Player, CD Player, and Pre-Out. And recently did some radio tuning with RDS  ;D  So far-so far (thank GOD) no hissing or hushing noise  ;)

Its before playing you can hear hissing sound. Guess my monoblocks are sensitive to pick up noise interterence from the Onkyo.

What i meant, in an AVR like the 875 it has many different internal components that are bound to create some form of noise.

Sigh, i've got bit of problem here but i have no clue how to solve it.

I got the Onkyo 605 on tuesday hooked my KEF iq9 floorstanders and iq2c to it, on the front left and right, and center speakers.

But since i don't have a subwoofer, or surround speakers yet, it's just 3.0 now.

I read the manual and it said if you set subwoofer to "no", then Front speaker setting's wont be available. How come like that? So i set the Center and Surround Speaker setting to "Full Band""

Then i tried watching movies with my ps3 and PC. Connected using HDMI and SPDIF respectively. Everything sounded great until i realised that my iQ9s were only producing sound for the top  Driver.

Like u know how there are 3 drivers on it. But sound only comes out from the topmost driver.

I tried every listening mode possible, but still didn't work.

So i took out the speaker cables from the back and plugged them into "Surround" But that didn't change anything as well. The sound only came out from the top driver

So now i'm at my wits end...

When u set subwoofer = yes, there will be a setting for u to decide which frequency and below the sound meant for the front will be diverted from your front speakers to the sub.  With subwoofer = yes, all LFE (low frequency effect) will be sent to the sub.  If sub=no, there is no sub to take away from the fronts, thus the front settings are not avaialble.

For ur case, set sub=no and try again.

No problem here too. Using my Rotel power-amp for FL and FR.

You may like to check for ground loop or try another power point.

hey guys, just checking

when hooking a ps3 up to the onkyo 605, i have to set the audio settings on the ps3 to "LPCM" right? not bitstream

Only then will i be able to enjoy the lossless sound formats of bluray?

The onkyo is just gonna display it as LPCM? and not like TrueHD dolby digital, or DTS-MA right?

erm the PS3 in not able to play/output Dolby TrueHD yet.

nvm i found out that the PS3 can decode TrueHD and send it as linear PCM, so the ONKYO is not going to see it as TrueHD, it should see it as Linear PCM.  PS3 should be set to "Linear PCM" for HDMI audio out, also make sure to do the auto-detect or tell the PS3 what the receiver can and cant do under audio settings. In the end, the receiver should see it as PCM.

All right guys,  i took a deep breath and did the firmware upgrade myself using the software provided by U.S. avsforum via RS232 cable.  Guess what?

Sucess!!!!!!  I managed to upgrade from v1.02 to the latest v1.04 for my onkyo 875 without a hitch. It took around 15mins and i can finally get access to the Reon Menu.  ;D  Damn satisfied.

Congrats! Hope it was not too difficult to do it.

Now time for you to write out a step by step guide for us to upgrade the firmware  ;D Do you mind posting a direct link to the firmware thread in avsforum. Thanks!  ;)

I have the same experience. PS3 showing trueHD but onkyo only as LPCM. But btw true HD and DD can you hear any diff? I was also trying to figure out if any diff in output rate btw PCM and bitstream on the PS3 but the rate change is so fast that I can't keep track...hehe. Any way just sit back and enjoy...

Guess for now PS3 owners won't see the holy grail till a new firmware appears...
