Rahul and Gerald got their items in Phase I

I am still making up my mind, and we made a few new friends

Wanna join me for my thought process and narrowing down?

Stuck between spending all on a HT system or splitting between a HT and a seperate music stereo pair.

Been writing about this dilema...

Is your plan to setup your HT system with the Panny or Marantz?

If its the panny, then it'll be easier to bring that ard to try our speakers rite?

Nah Panny has been sold in Oz. Its just for me to play with anyway.

THe Marantz is my main unit.

Might check out the Dalis before I decide.

Or maybe I should take a holiday in Taiwan.... :)

I suggest you be more focused on what you what.

With all the maybe this, maybe that, you'll never get anywhere and your prolly never get your objective met. Now you can think of Dali, I can easily throw you another 5 brands of speakers that I think might be good. And another someone else gives your 5 other names. So where does it end? You prolly will test out all speakers in the market that you think fit ur budget but ending up not remembering how the 1st few that u auditon sound like. That was the advise you gave Ming rite?

Just fix ur budget, listen to the ones you can audition, and choose la. Speakers are the most difficult to buy. Dun make it even harder by throwing urself more choices. I know money not easy to come by, so after you choose your speakers, be happy and realistic of what you can expect the speakers to do. At least you have tested out with your amps and know which speakers suits your needs and your amp best.

If your preference is for HT, just go for the cheaperst HT speakers that fit ur needs. Eg, if usher setup is reasonably good sounding for u and ur amp, then just go for it lor. And when the day comes when you are to more music than HT, choose a good 2channel stereo then. By that time, you could have comfortably afford a good pair of speakers that offers better listening experience than your 5.1 setup.

And really, dun read too many magazines for which one give u more stars. Remember, when reviewers listen, they used their own equipment which could have a different sonic signature compared to your equipment. An equipment that they think deserves 5 stasr in their setup, could be a 3 star on yours. Not to say whose equipment is better. Its all about synergy.

Thanks bro

Not going to try too much, just Dali and Usher, cos I have never tried Dalis before actually.

I have given up the spendors, I will try the RS tonight with my amp at a bro's home.

Then sit down and decide on which one.

Today was a day of wins and losses, pleasant and not so great ones, but I choose to write about the nice bits first, cool down and decide if I really want to pen down the rest.

Made more friends today, hello to Martin, Richie, Ming, and Dez :) Hope you all had fun.

The day began with a last round of hi fi at Adelphi.

In case you wonder if I just feell like listening to so much stuff, actually its tiring but meeting and exchanging ideas is the best part. Sometimes within a group I dare to venture to try other speakers that I wouldn't and hear for myself what the fuss is about. I only use magazines as a guide but my ears are the final judge.

Honestly considered the Ushers and would have laid down good meny for them and took an hour's bus to try them, will gather my thoughts on these value for money speakers and share them later.

The final stop at a brother's home was the best bit and I will share them after this.

Kudos to Kevin at Asia Sound, bros the shop has a very patient and friendly sales person now, and he tolerated our presence, and allowed us to demo lots of his stuff, always with great enthusiasm.

Alpha Audio was pretty friendly too.

Some may want to know if I did decide yet.

My time was spent trying to keep an open mind, so I felt I needed to try the other brands, especially from shops who gave me such sterling service, eg KEC and Asia Sound. I also tried speakers from a few others recommended by bros.

I essentially eliminated some due to their price, others due to their sonic signature and one particular because of an unpleasant expereince with the proprieter. That was a pity cos I felt the speakers were a solid buy and I had cash in my pocket since it was so value for money that I might have gone out on a limb and got it just to try it out.

Now I need to re-think my finances but the auditions have been very fruitful and I met a lot of nice folks who offered their time and help and the journey was good. Thanks bros who came and those who opened their homes to allow me to test in peace and offer their valuable time.

But I reserved my final decision til later ;)
