DJQ Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 hi bros, i am planning to get the Denon DCD 1500AE SACD player. but it doesnt have any 5.1 chn audio output. i tought super audio CD is supposed to be played output via the 5.1 chns? the denon's SACD all comes with audio L+R and Digital Coaxial/Opitcal only. does it mean to say we can stream the SACD audio thru the pure digital format to the AVR and hear 5.1 SACD?
media2368 Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 For your info, some SACD player can only play STEREO. And SACD cannot pass through via Digital Coaxial/Optical, only CD can pass through via Digital Coaxial/Optical. :)

Not the Marantz SA-15/11/7 S1 or even the more affordable 8001/7001, Denon DCD-2000AE or flagship SA-1. Even the new Wadia 581i does not sport multichannel outputs. The Esoteric X-01 does though, but it's super expensive (more than 12K USD I think) You can opt for a regular universal player like 2nd hand Pioneer 989 and modify the hell out of it for better fidelity though. Else I think if you can pick up a SCD-XA9000ES that is the closest you can get for a "dedicated" player, that is not a Universal player (ie can play video)....but that still probably is over your budget.
2100 Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Or can check with James of effectiveaudiomod, see if he has any 963sa players left. Ask him to take out the video section, he can tell you more. Aftersales support is excellent, and he does home loans too.

SiriuslyCold Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 btw, it's dedicated Over the years I've seen reviews that say the Denon 29xx series is a superb audio player for redbook as well as SACD, and also some other users who want a dedicated CD player as well as the universal player. So it really depends on what is "good enough" for you in your system the cheapest (according to reviews) good sounding player nowadays is the Oppo 970HD at $299. If you don't like the construction/looks, perhaps audition the Cambridge Audio DVD89 as it is using the same motherboard as the Oppo. (it's also using the same Crystal DACs as the highly rated CA Azur 540 CDP) The next step up is probably the Denon 2930 (which by all accounts is a super video machine as well) Marantz also make good sounding players in the DVx600 (6600, 7600, 9600) range. Pioneer make two players at any one time: an entry level (current 696A) and a relatively high-end on (989Avi) If you already have a good CD player in your system, don't get rid of it and a less expensive SACD player might suffice.
DJQ Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 Many thanks on your reply. pardon my spelling mistake. :-[ will do more homework. :)
Audio Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Better save your money. I have been using SACD for a few years now and my advice to you is to wait. I actually went out and paid cash for a SCD-XA9000ES before only to have Song Singapore telling me that they cannot provide this player to me...no stock...and refunded me!! The release on SACD titles are getting fewer and fewer especially pop genre....it is as if Sony is holding it back for some new standard to appear , aka Blu-Ray Audio. (Audio) Doesn't the Denon DCD 1500AE SACD player come with iLink or the 5.1 channel Firewire interface???
2100 Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Blu ray or HD-DVD....40-50GB, don't think they need so much capacity even for 24/384. ;D Think its more like dropping demand for the so-called high-def audio. Majority of consumers don't care for that (and can't take serious advantage of that, not the usual regular HT stuff). Can't earn enough. Audiophile numbers also dropping. And even then in the audio fraternity, people are getting back into vinyl.

I should be looking at getting the Denon DCD-700AE with AL24 Processing.

My CA DAB500 tuner is Wolfson for sure...
SiriuslyCold Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 tok_kong88, you are correct. thanks. I must've meant the 540D DVD player uses Crystal chips
