hi,

i'm kinda new to the forum - been browsing but not really posting...coz i'm a new to hi-fi

need some advice from the gurus here, i'm looking at KEF iQ5 floorstanders and NAD 320BEE amp - heard it at KEF a few days ago and was quoted $1.3K for the package.

i'm just getting into this music thingee and not particular except that the separation must be good and bass tight n punchy (basiucally not all over the place). been told the NAD amp is pretty good value for money but would like to hear more comments abt the KEF floor standers...

would anyone care to comment on this combi? thinking of getting it soon. thanks!

I found the iQ5 too bright with their AV amp. The bottom end, however was night and tight. Check out stereophile for their review of the iQ9.

Seems like their uni Q driver still making things bright. Maybe the Cresta 30 will be the better choice.

I think it's just their aluminium dome tweeter.

But what's bright for me might be neutral to your ears. If you like it, by all means go for it. But I reckon the best advice I could give you is to give other speakers a listen too. Say the Diamond 9 floor standers if they are your thing.

The NAD amp should give you the speed and punch you're looking for.

For entry level speakers, I suppose you could give the B&W 6's, Tannoy mercurys or Monitor Audio bronzes a listen as well, although the B&W may be a little too pricey at this range. Transworld's recommendation of the Crestas are well worth an audition as well.

Hi, I am just starting up and in a similar situation looking for a pair of floorstanders in the $1k range. Apart from the KEF iQ5, have also heard the Wharfedale 9.5 and Epos ELS303. Not really able to distinguish the strength of each due probably to my anxiety at the showrooms. My inclination is for the Epos and KEF. From browsing the forum, and at a lower price range are the Mordaunt Short Avant 906 and Infinity Primus 360 which I have yet a chance to listen. Music preference is esay listening, new age and vocal. Appreciate all inputs. Thanks.

Talking about Primus 360, the review is very moltivating. I also quite interested in it too. The price is $580.

IMHO, px is attractive for a floorstander, sentivity at 93dB is also a strong point, can even use low power tube amp to drive.  but bottomline again....yourself.... whether u like the looks and whether sound is "music to yr ears".  good luck in yr hunt.

This, to me, is a very sensibly-priced and well reviewed speaker in a very long time. The last time I was looking for a floorstander was the Acoustic Energy Evo 3 that was priced at $750 after "discount" from a very "reputable" shop.

Hope can save enough money in time to get my first floorstander.  ;D

the primus is easier to drive than the AE, i hv heard the AE before, to me its a little to bright for my liking.  but construction wise, the AE is better built.

audit both and decide lah.
