As I've ordered a Yamamoto I really need to address on thing that's been bugging me for many years - despite many attempts, I've never really got used to listening on headphones. Otherwise I'll have wasted more than most people spend on an entire system!

So, over to you headphoneistas.

What are the ground rules for getting the most out of headphone listening?

for me, finding a comfortable h/p is one of my main criterias.

less time fidgeting the h/phone trying to find the right and comfortable spot.

next, find a good seat and an environment with little distractions.

hope this helps

k_ has pretty well hit the nail on the head. The only other thing I will add, is to find a headphone that suits your listening tastes. There is no point buying a phone that excells at classical or jazz, if you listen to lots of rock.

It doesn't matter how technically accurate the headphone is, if its not dynamic and exciting to listen to then you will lose interest pretty quickly. There is no point looking at an AKG 501 for instance. Great soundstage, but little dynamic impact and bass response.

Same goes in reverse. If your a classical nut, then look for phone that has lots of detail and soundstage. No point looking at something from Grado or Allessandro (poor soundstage), as it will ruin the illusion of siting front row centre in the auditorium.

Thats the begining of it. No doubt you will find something that will suit you personal taste, it may just take time.

if ur looking for sound stage, forget it. the best u can do is get panned monophonic ie no depth. some headphones stage better than others, but unless u have a specialist recording u wont be getting any real depth.

i still love listening to my cans because they are convienient and its a cheap way of getting good accurate response.

i can where my 701's all day everyday and most of the time wont suffer any fatigue (sometimes i will, probably because im doing homework at the same time and i know it hurts my head  )
