hey bro.. no doubt sometimes we may have to spend to "learn", (pay "school fees"), try to get a component that you think that you can last for awhile (or at least until u think u're ready to hit the Big Time).

when i first started, i always felt the urge to "upgrade". juz to share with u.. my "hifi" journey started when i itchy backside went to buy a tube int amp (i paid $800 for a Jolida 502a). Hooked that up to my pioneer dvd karaoke player (forgot the model...DV101 or something) and to the crappy speakers from the old prologic all-in-one system. That sound really blew me away... but soon backside was more itchy and i spend more...and more... hehehee...

hi tool......

my apologies..... i dun rilly understand ur statement......

but i'll try to interpret and explain.....

and pls guide me along, as i'm quite new to audio equipment :)

i've tested the equipment in a crappy environment (unlike those aldephi sound-proofed, treated, aircon "acoustical" rooms) with ppl walking in and out distracting my listening, so i reckon the system should probabli sound much better in my room environment.....

is my assumption inappropriate? ???

sure i can be a little more explicit :)

putting it simply, what happens is that regardless of the arrangement of the other equipment, cluttering etc. etc. your room is different from his room. THere maybe something 'right' about his arrangement (including your listenin position) that you heard. That doesn't mean that you can just replicate the exact same stunning sound you heard then. So be prepared if the result's aren't what you are looking out for. It is very often the caser. Ask for a home trial if that's ever possible.

tz for ur explaination....... i understand wat u mean :)

at the moment, i could onli hope my judgement is correct, coz home trial is IMPOSSIBLE.....

i dun even mind if i've to pay 10-20% of price for returning the equipment, but guess it's juz not the practice here in SG..... haiz....

well.... there's another reason y i thought the system could sound better at home:

my spiks need to be listened 2m away from them and they nearli sound like computer speakers if i'm less than 1m away!! ;D

and this is the exact scenario at the shop: 1m away from spik..... yet i could get richness outta it and it's decent enuff for my listening....

so i believed they'd sound much much much better 2m away...

on the other hand, i agree very much wif ur advice, as i strongli believe room acoustics and spik/equipment placement makes (or breaks) 30-60% of the end music reproduction!

i'm fulli prepared to hear a totalli different presentation back home.... juz hoping it'd go in a positive direction....

due to the impossibility of home-trail, rilly hope i dun make a wrong assumption and decision ;D

hi hw:

yeah... i noe wat u mean.....

audio is a black hole!!! juz get drawn into much further and deeper!! never-ending story!!

this happened to me for my car audio.....

i juz sold away all my car stuff to recuperate for my home setup ;D

in fact, i got all my car audio hooked up (including a 15" sub) at home using a AC-DC convertor after i sold my ride......

i got so sick or the digital nature (i din get tube amps, coz DAMN ex!!) of car stereo at home tat i've decided to look "the sound i've pursued for YEARS" since i was a kid!! no joke!!! i started since 11 years old, when i got a denon midi as a bday present from my dad (lucky me) ;D

due to shallow wallet, could onli tweak the system to the max, squeeze every drop outta it, including changing of drivers and x-overs.......

looking hi and low for the kinda sound i like, but shucks!! tat kinda characteristics, my budget could never make it!! haiz!!

stretch, stretch and stretch further till pants pecah!! ;D

i'll probabli be like u.....

buy.... listen.... test..... listen somemore.... can be better...... change (the cycle repeats itself)!! ;D

KI:

blisters are definiteli on the way to my butts too ;D

i havnt settled for my system and i'm oredi planning for my nex upgrade based on the equipment i'm planning to get!!! kekeke 8)

i've found a good way to relieve the itch without spending much, is to follow the "voodoo" way of tweaking the system. this could mean "stealing" the porcelain tea cups to replace the feet of the components (and try to imagine the sound has been "upgraded" heheheh) or go spend $50 to DIY a pair of cables.

or for something that does not cost money - play around with the placement.

i found out that by simply re-positioning my pre-amp, i could hear the difference! (or maybe i'm just imagining).

ha ha h h aaaaa......

tat's preciseli wat i did on my denon midi for the past 15 yrs, until it broke down and i replaced it wif a cambridge A500 int amp and denon DCD-610 CDP.....

toe-in and toe-out..... carpet...... nearer to wall... further from wall..... different materials to be place on top of amp, CDP, spik..... blah ;D

3 pais of spiks in the hall to play wif....

spik A onli...... spik B onli...... Spik C onli......

A + B, B + C, A + C...... blah.... ;D

and change drivers of spiks 8)

now for my room set-up, i'm using car 6" drivers wif KEF box......

oso looking at changing spik box volume to optimise performance...... ;)

too much things to play wif, but too shallow a pocket :-\

now thinking VERY hard whether to commit tat vintage luxman amp......

mind-boggling sound, but mind-bothering repairs in the near future as well......

big dilemma!!!! ???

1)Hw is my personal friend , he knows me well enough to understand wat I am saying , No , I 'm not directing at u !'' U are suffering from very serious inferior complex !

2) I don't see the need to explain to you wat I have said since I am replying to hw n I am not directing at you ,neither is there a need to edit my message unless u tell me that u own this Forum which we all know u are not , so stop threatening as if u are the boss !

3)No , I am not related to Simply Music, those who know me long enough know that ! I have more lucrative business to attend to than to sell hifi !

4)I am not at all influenced by the sale of the Ah Tjoeb. , I am just informing everybody that the Ah Tjoeb has been sold !..those who have been to my house for powwow knew that I have owned the Ah Tjoeb for more than 3 years liao ! I have a total of 8 CD players at home !

bro, i'm rilly pleased u've explained ur point..... :)

and rilly wished tat i've been in this forum long to noe u better and personalli to avoid this tedious exchange of words....... :)

well.... lemm clear up the air a lil......

when i saw ur post, frankli, the 1st thing tat came to my mind was:

this person is probabli related to the shop (as i do not noe who u r)...... and since he's oredi mananged to sell the product, y bother to even post tat reply to me?

as the end-customer, i'll decide to make or break the deal.... if the item is sold b4 i make my decision, then too bad for me...... no obligations watsoever..... a fair deal.......

since u've confirmed tat u'r not from the shop, and giving advice as a fellow-forumer's, i'm onli glad to accept ur guidance, as i do tend to be a little reserved when making decisions......

on the other hand, i cannot afford to make too wrong a choice, as i do not have enuff mullas to keep experimenting wif equipment ;D

wrong choice means i'll have to live wif it wat i have for a while.....

hope i do clear up our misunderstanding :)

and WOW!!! 8 CDPs and many spiks at ur place?!!!!

a real eye opener! 8)
