Is this the "DLP2" projector, using the so called "blacker"

chip. DLP website dun even mention a DLP2, it reminded me of people calling the THX Surround EX as 6.1 when it was launched, which the inventors never ever will agree to say is a 6.1 format.

I have seen this Projector on a perhaps over ampitious screen size of 120" , for $29000 local $, contrast ratio rated 1100:1, the author from the Perfect Vision said "HT300's black level and contrast were nearly as good as a 7" CRT projector, which is saying a lot".

Only nearly as good as 7"?

He went on to say the HT300 "produced the best images I've seen from a single-chip DLP projector. With a greatly improved black-level performance, superb rendering of colour, and a contrast ratio that approaches that of CRT, the HT300 is a contender even for high-end home theater."

I kinda of agree, from results of some test dvd. But it is not the bright category, only 700 lumens. But quite a comfortable picture to watch and no fatigue. It could be improve with a smaller screen.

In a nut shell, the gorgeous body is a nice pallete to grace most modern state-of-the art homes.

The same issue also showcased their "recommended products" with Class 1 the best and the Class 5 the least.

SIM2 HT300 is categorised as Class 3 along with a Zenith 7" CRT projector at a MUCH cheaper price than HT300. This to me is a no brainer. If you want picture, go for CRT, if you want gorgeous body go for SIM2.

The Sharp XV-Z9000U(DLP) and Sony VW11HT (LCD) went to Class 4.

Naturally the Class 1 and 2 belongs to the 9" and 8" CRT projectors. aptly put "CRT is Still King" by Ciputra

I remember I talked about the best direct view TV in one of the posts, not a panosonic or sony or philips, the truth is ....Loewe, and they rated the Loewe Aconda , Class 1.

This magazine reviews are very unbiased.

Yeow...side track a bit, hope u don't mind.

Regarding 7", 8" and 9" CRT:

(1) is the smaller " also = smaller size?

(2) is the throw distance affected by the "?

(3) if using a 70" horizontal 4:3 screen (vertical size variable as can pull up/down). What is the maximun distance the CRT can be placed so as not to "overspill" onto the screen?

Whoo CRT still rules as I don't have room for CRT PJ the next best thing is a 20-21inch CRT monitor which can be bought from S$300 for 2nd hand. Will be setting it up with an extron scaler.

Jonlee:

Yes the bigger the tube, the bigger the size and heavier ;D. The biggest so far I saw is a 12inch projector. So huge that the electronic board and tubes are put in seperate compartment. One of the lens itself already weight more than the AE100 or TW100 or even a Z9000. Just freaking heavy. ;D

Ciputra already said it correctly.

For throw distance, it depends on the lens model. The most popular maker is USPL (united states precision lens). Very popular is the HD8 for item (3), and HD145 for the Cine 7. Ciputra, what does the Cinemax use for the lens? HD300?

For a 70" horizontal width(87.5" diag) the projector lens:

1. D50----->105"

2. G70----->93"

3. 1272, Marquee 8" and Barco 808 etc... uses HD8 lens -----> 97"

4. An example of LCD Sony VW10/11HT------> min. 138"

So you can see that the CRT has shorter throw distance.

You can get the calculator program/manuals from here : http://www.biggerhammer.net/mediaroom/

Good luck.

Say Ciputra, you better try Radeon graphics card with your monitor, sure you have that HTPC? which is better?

Hi Yeow,

Yeah i will try to upgrade my PC's graphic card to Radeon at later date as the monitor has dual input one D15 and the other 5BNC. The scaler will be use for SCV,Xbox,DVD,PS2 standalone. Too bad there's no DVI input in the monitor ;)

The scaler output a respectable PQ it is a DVS204 model with SDI input. The Cine9 uses HFQ900 lens btw

Using Radeon 7500 in the office and the output from the DVI when connected to a 3chip DLP is really very clear.

Wow, a 3 chip DLP! From your experience, what is the black level like when playing dark scenes, are they already better the CRT ? If the price is cheaper, it may be an alternative to the CRT.

Do you think the digital cinema will be a big hit in USA?

Todays DLP's black level can't match that of CRTs.... at least until something big comes out. Even 3-chip ones.

As with all digital pjs, the light source (lamp) is continuous. This is what causes elevated black levels. The transmissive and reflective pj techologies so far are not able to absorb nor reflect 100% of the kilo-lumens light source.(not easy to do that anyway)

CRTs are different beast altogether as they rely on turning on and off the light source that paint the image.

I believe the studios are all heading towards digital cinema pjs....... possibly to maximise potential benefits of digital transmission's immunity to poor film prints and do away with transporting those heavy film reels to individual cinemas....... hehehe one day Orchard Cineplex will just need to down load their films instead.

If some theft of the data occurs, then we have perfect copies.

Dont have to wait 6 months or more for the dvd.

They better think twice. ;D

Well Yeow,

For black level CRT is still unbeatable and also there's this light spillage characteristics of DLP pj around the main frame. But i'm impressed with the PQ when the signal path is fully digital. As for cinema DLP, my experience in watching the SWep2 in vancouver leave me unimpressed especially during the dark scenes, its so greyish black. However during bright scenes its good though.

Will be playing with the cineversum when the unit available here and tell you more

wah, envy, Vancouver !

I heard a lot of videophile could not agree on the dark scenes out of digital cinema. It created a storm when SW ep2 is going to be shown in digital, now that the truth is out there, many is complaining about less than stellar black level performance. I think Geroge Lucas has bet on the wrong techonolgy for his products.

Let us know your Cine Versum's performance, when you have a chance.

Cheers,
