charaterisitcs of the amp:

punchy,big on bass,clarity,detail

was envisioning a sound that has bass as the dominant force with the treble and other higher frequencies taking a step back, but not at the xpense of clarity and detail

of course the amp outta be able to match my AEGIS ONE

my ic is the VDH d102III

and will be getting the cs122

my current amp is the rotel 931mkII which i think isn't giving the spekers enough drive

If you are looking for a new amp, give Marantz PM7000 (~$550) a try. It has the characteristics you are looking for - good clarity, satisfyingly warm midrange, and with plenty of raw power (95 w/channel) for producing deep punchy bass and good slam. I am pairing it with CD4000 too and get satisfying result. The only small complaint is this amp prefers to be play loud (usually 9 o'clock position and above). Playing at very low volume somewhat causes a loss in resolution.

If you are looking into 2nd hand stuffs too, then others might be able to give better suggestions.

Do you try ROTEL- RA1060 or NAD C350??? Both are decent AMP with good wattage to drive ur AEGIS ONE.

Go for audition with various AMP setup.

Just my 2Cents.

Hi swastikaeyes,

I'm currently very happy with my NAD C370 (originally $850, got mine 2nd hand at $5xx). It's got 120W into 8 ohms and adjusts accordingly for lower loads. Loads of inputs, 2 pairs of speaker outputs, has pre-outs for bi-amping, what more can you want?

My Opera speakers are not known for bass, but with a little speaker placement tweaks...sometimes I wonder if the neighbours are going to complain anytime soon. The volume knob's at 10 o'clock and the bass is going 'TOOM! TOOM! TOOM!' playing Sting (definitely not 'normal' material for my speakers! ;D).

Cheers!

The Nad 370 is a decent choice...

Contrary to what medp9153 experience, the PM7000 is a lazy sounding amp, which is good for vocals and instrumental works, but a bit dull for pop. However, it will go well with the CD4000.

Will you be looking into 2nd hand stuffs, if so, there are galore of choices but wou have to wait a while for them. Musical Fidelity XA2, Densen Beat 100 (good stuff), Myrad 120, any Exposure amps...

Hmm, so the partnering speakers play an important role too. I think the best place to start your audition is KEC or any shops which has Agies one, CD4000, and all the above-mentioned amp so that you can mix and match. You might get some unexpected results.

Those 2nd hand stuffs mentioned by Chaos are good choices. Good luck!

I agree with Chaos, with $800 you can definitely move one notch up if you buy 2nd hand.

Did a quick scan of the singnet ads till Saturday. Hmm... doesn't seem to have a deal for you, though. All either too cheap or too ex.

Good luck!

like i said b4,bass the priority, but clarity mustn't be over looked

Looks like i have 3 choices

1.rotel ra1060:i'm using a rotel and am aware of the power it possess.did a comparison of marantz pm4000 and rotel 931(which i bought)rotel win hands down in terms of power.

by this hypothesis, can we say that in the following head to head matchup rotel 1060 vs marantz pm7000 or vs rotel 971 for fairer comparison)

rotel will emerge winners in terms of bass power?

2.NAD c370(loadsa power in watts, but is it power?thought NADs are known for warm sound)ah...if they were power then i would go for this since NADs have a clear sound which i crave for also

3.rega brio ooh lala of an amp,audioreview.com had some reviews calling it very musical but can be deficient on bass sometimes .the power is a bit on the low side..dunno if its a good indicator

any one care to comment and also recommend?

why u want bass to be a priority?

wat kind of music u enjoy? rock, pop?

(remind me of the kind of sound i am looking for when i am starting out.. with emphasis on gd bass but on tight budget)

ageis one bass jus like tat loh.. slightly tighter n better than mini compo hifi bass(mega bass on mode)

jus my 2 cents

Not many of us Opera owners around.... I have a pair of Opera Duetto. Also not known for its bass.... :P

I added a passive sub (Alon PW1) and that helped a lot on the low end of the bass.

:)
