Electrovoice Interface. Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Hi interested to know if anyone owns a The Well Tempered Lab Simplex Turntable......Designed by William Firebaugh I would be very interested with any thoughts on this rather unusual tonearm without a bearing and golf ball that sits in a tub of silicone near the counterweight
Electrovoice Interface. Posted June 4, 2019 Author Posted June 4, 2019 Well well well.......The Silence has be been deafening ..Re this topic ..... .........
rocky500 Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 (edited) I had one and thought is was an excellent sounding table. Loved the idea of a golf ball, fishing type line for belt and squash balls for feet. I did sell it as I bought more expensive cartridges as I did not trust myself manually lowering the needle onto the record. It was just too nerve racking. Edited June 5, 2019 by rocky500 1
rocky500 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) One tip I picked up was to replace the finger lift with a toothpic as I found my finger got caught on the original one a bit. Made it a lot easier to place the needle down plus their was talk about the tweak of removing the original finger lift as it put a bit of weight to one side, supposedly sounded better without it. Electrovoice Interface. Posted June 5, 2019 Author Posted June 5, 2019 Thanks for the info Did you mean Nerve Tracking...
Citroen Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 I have the Amadeus which has a similar if not identical arm. Love the sound. Clean, open and dynamic. My only reservation would be the perceived value for money as the build quality is rather basic. But based on sound quality alone, its worth every penny. 1
Wayne Elliott Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 I have a WT Versalex. I've had quite a few issues with the Deck. It took a Turntable guru to get it right. I only just got it back after a long wait. Have to say with a few improvements it is just a magnificent sounding Deck. Lively, energetic, a real Toe-Tapper. Fortunately the Arm on the Versalex has a lift, and the azimuth adjustment on the fly is really easy to use. It is certainly a "different" looking Deck and may be off putting to some, but when set-up well will easily compete with Decks at least double it's RRP. I would think the Simplex should be a Great Value "Sounding" Deck as well. The lack of Tonearm lift might concern some like me. 1
